Yamagata Nanokamachi Washington Hotel

forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 3.58 out of 5 (3,367 reviews). Guests describe the communal bath as compact but say the water feels lovely, and several praise the breakfast buffet for its variety and desserts. Some also value the convenience of the convenience store connected on the first floor. On the other hand, some guests report that there are few nearby restaurants that are easy to visit with children and that they struggled to find somewhere for dinner, so it is reassuring to look up dining options in advance.

Overview

Yamagata Nanokamachi Washington Hotel is a business hotel about 5 minutes by car from JR Yamagata Station, in Nanokamachi, the city's liveliest shopping and entertainment district. The communal bath Megumi no Yu, which uses groundwater from the Zao water system, is reserved for staying guests, and cribs are available to borrow free of charge with advance reservation. One child per adult can co-sleep at no additional charge, and a restaurant with private rooms is available for family meals.

Rooms

Guest rooms include single, double and twin rooms, as well as the Flooring Triple Room, a triple room with wood flooring. The Standard Single is 11.5 sq m with a 120 cm-wide bed, and the Deluxe Single is 15 sq m with a 140 cm bed. Among the twin rooms, the Standard is 16.5 sq m with 100 cm-wide beds and the Deluxe is 25 sq m with 120 cm-wide beds. The Standard Double is 15 sq m and the Deluxe Double is 19 sq m, both with a 140 cm bed. Every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function that guests are free to use. Extra beds are not available, so families can use a triple room or a plan for 3 or 4 guests that combines a twin room with a single room.

Dining

Breakfast is served at Gaslight, the ninth-floor restaurant, as a Japanese-Western buffet featuring rice grown in Yamagata Prefecture and local Yamagata dishes. It runs from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Breakfast can be added for children from age 4 through elementary school for 1,000 yen including tax. Sanjusangendo, the second-floor restaurant, has 6-tatami and 8-tatami private rooms that also work well for family meals.

Baths

The first-floor communal bath Megumi no Yu is for staying guests only. It uses groundwater from the Zao water system, drawn from 100 m below ground, with the water set to about 42°C, and guests bathe surrounded by the scent of hinoki (Japanese cypress). Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to midnight. Entry to the bath uses a keypad code system, and the code is given at check-in. Towels and bath towels must be brought from your room.

Family-friendly features

One child per adult can co-sleep at no additional charge; from the second child onward the adult rate applies, without bedding or meals. On plans that include meals, meals are not included for a co-sleeping child. Some seasonal plans state that co-sleeping is free for children up to elementary school age. Cribs are lent free of charge, and you need to contact the front desk in advance to use one. Extra beds are not available, and amenities such as toothbrushes and towels are provided only for the room's set capacity, so it is reassuring to check in advance if your group is larger. Checkout is normally 10 a.m., but it can be extended to 1 p.m. for an extension fee of 480 yen per person, which helps if getting ready in the morning takes a while.

Access

The hotel is about 5 minutes by car from the East Exit of JR Yamagata Station, or about 15 minutes on foot, in Nanokamachi, the city's liveliest shopping and entertainment district. The hotel's contracted parking lots are Echigoya Parking (750 yen per night) and Nanokamachi Parking Plaza 2, the ARC parking lot (300 yen per night). A Lawson convenience store open 24 hours is on the first floor, handy for small purchases.
