Gensen to Hanare no Yado Tsuki is a ryokan of 9 detached villas in Futo, Ito, Shizuoka, looking out over Sagami Bay. Every room has an open-air bath flowing straight from the source, and the villas come in two types: the single-story umi (56 sq m, for 1 to 3 guests) and the maisonette-style tsuki (86 sq m, for 1 to 4 guests). Meals are served in the private dining rooms at Tsukikage. Children of elementary school age and under are accepted only on the Family-only plan, and children's items are available to borrow when you book that plan.
Rooms
All 9 units are independent detached villas in a modern Japanese style. The single-story Zekkei Ocean Terrace umi, named for its spectacular view, is a 56 sq m Japanese-Western room for 1 to 3 guests, with a sunken-floor table and about 3 tatami mats of tatami space beside the beds. Bedding can be arranged for up to 3 people: the 2 beds already in the room plus 1 set of futon bedding. The maisonette-style Kutsurogi no Maisonette tsuki is an 86 sq m Japanese-Western room for 1 to 4 guests, with an open-air bath and a massage chair on the first floor and a living room and bedroom up the spiral staircase on the second floor; bedding can be arranged for up to 4 people, the 2 beds already in the room plus 2 sets of futon bedding. Because the bedroom and the in-room open-air bath in tsuki sit on separate floors, umi is recommended if going up and down stairs is difficult. All rooms are non-smoking, and smoking is allowed only on the terrace.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both served in the private dining rooms at Tsukikage, except on plans for guests traveling with children. These semi-private rooms have sunken-floor (horigotatsu) seating, so you can eat without worrying about other guests. Dinner is a kaiseki course such as the Tsuki Kaiseki, with dishes including a pescatore made with sazae (turban shell) and spear squid from Izu, abalone dishes, spiny lobster dishes, and seared kinme (splendid alfonsino) over red-vinegar rice finished in front of you. Breakfast comes with the signature uni yuba ankake (sea urchin and yuba in a thickened sauce), and you can round it off to your own taste with dashi chazuke (rice in savory broth) and more. If anyone in your party has a severe food allergy, please contact the ryokan in advance.
Baths and Onsen
Every villa has an open-air bath fed 100% by the property's own spring water, flowing straight from the source, so you can bathe whenever you like, 24 hours a day. A little way into the forest beyond the detached rooms there is also a communal bath, Tsukihime no Yu, which likewise flows straight from the property's own source. The communal bath cannot be used between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. There is a germanium ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna) as well, signed up for on the day of your stay, at 2,800 yen per person for 45 minutes. Guests who are pregnant or who have a chronic medical condition are advised to consult their doctor.

Children of elementary school age and under are accepted only on the Family-only plan. Bookings are taken from 2 adults, and guests traveling with children under junior high school age can be accepted only on the Family plan. For bookings on the Family plan alone, children's items are available to borrow: a bed guard, a diaper bucket, a Bumbo seat, a children's chair, children's yukata, children's slippers, a children's toothbrush, a bouncer, anime DVDs and baby soap. Numbers are limited, so depending on the situation some items may not be available to borrow. Because of where the property sits, it cannot be used by guests in a wheelchair.
Access
The ryokan is in Futo, Ito, Shizuoka, and a free shuttle runs from Futo Station on the Izukyuko Line; the service runs from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., needs no reservation, and you simply call when you arrive at the station. By train from Tokyo, take the Shinkansen to Atami, the Ito Line to Ito, and the Izukyuko Line to Futo. By car, it is 35.0 km (21 minutes) on the Tomei Expressway from Tokyo IC to Atsugi IC, then 79.4 km (about 100 minutes) from Atsugi IC to Futo via Route 135 and Prefectural Route 109. There is parking for 15 cars, free for staying guests. Checkout is a late checkout at 11 a.m.
