Rooms
This large onsen hotel sits looking down over Rairaikyo, the gorge at Akiu Onsen, with 140 rooms in all: Japanese-style tatami rooms, Japanese-Western rooms, Western-style rooms, VIP suites and Royal Suites. The renovated rooms on the third and fourth floors of the main building all have beds, so there is no laying out and putting away of futons to think about. Room sizes range from Japanese-Western rooms of around 10 tatami mats up to special Japanese-Western rooms in the 60.2 sq m and 50 sq m classes, and you can choose capacities from 2 to 6 guests. Please note that the 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms are normally booked for 2 or more adults, so even when one adult and one child stay, the bill is settled on the day at the rate for 2 adults.

Dinner and breakfast are both served at the dining hall Hidamari as a buffet of about 50 Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes. Dinner runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. If you choose a set-meal plan, dinner is served in the banquet dining room, and you can ask for a start time between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Breakfast is not offered as a set meal, so it is served at the buffet venue. A child's menu can be either a Japanese set meal with fewer courses than the adult kaiseki, or a Western-style kids' meal. Baths and Onsen
The spring water is a weakly alkaline saline, sodium-calcium chloride spring, said to be beneficial for joint pain, frozen shoulder and neuralgia. The main building and annex together have 4 communal baths and 4 open-air baths, and the open-air bath in the main building is an infinity bath that feels at one with Rairaikyo. The communal baths are open from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next morning in the main building, and from 5 a.m. to midnight in the annex. Saunas adjoin both the men's and women's communal baths in the annex, but they open only from 2 p.m. onward. There are no private-hire open-air baths. For families with children, yukata are available in three sizes of about 130 cm, 120 cm and 110 cm.

You can also play table tennis in your yukata, and there are karaoke booths for small groups of up to 4 people that families can use. No rooms are designed specifically as barrier-free, but 3 wheelchairs are available with advance reservation, and guests using a wheelchair can be given a room near the elevator.
Access
JR Sendai Station is about 50 minutes away by public bus and about 30 minutes by car, and the Sendai-minami IC on the Tohoku Expressway is about 10 minutes away by car. A free shuttle bus runs daily from the East Exit of Sendai Station, with advance reservation required. The parking area holds 150 vehicles, is open 24 hours a day, and needs no reservation.
