Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Misato is a 12-room ryokan in the heart of Kurokawa Onsen, right in front of the Igozaka slope. It reopened in the summer of 2024 after a full renovation and offers Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms. Alongside Misato no Yu, a sulfur onsen whose color changes with the time of day, staying guests can book a private-hire family bath for 50 minutes for 2,000 yen, and co-sleeping is free for children ages 0 to 2. Meals accommodating allergies can also be arranged. The ryokan is a 7-minute walk from the Kurokawa Onsen bus stop, and a shuttle is available with advance arrangement.
Rooms
There are 12 rooms in total. A new Japanese-Western room, designed for groups, was added in August 2024. Five rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms and 7 are Japanese-Western rooms. The 8-tatami Japanese-Western room, renovated in August 2024, has a toilet with a warm-water bidet seat, a refrigerator and a washbasin, and accommodates 1 to 3 guests. The 16-tatami Japanese-Western room pairs an 8-tatami Japanese-style area with 2 single beds and sleeps up to 6 guests, making it suitable for families, friends and groups. There are also 10-tatami, 8-tatami and 6-tatami Japanese-style rooms, each with a refrigerator and a washbasin and toilet. Every room type has a set children's rate.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are served in the banquet hall. There is also a dining area divided by partitions. A kids' meal is on the menu. Meals accommodating allergies can be prepared, but requests based on personal food preferences cannot be accommodated, so please let the ryokan know in advance if anyone in your party has an allergy.
Baths and Onsen
The open-air bath Misato no Yu is a sulfur onsen whose color changes through the day - something rare even in Kurokawa Onsen. Bathing hours reserved for staying guests are from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The indoor bath and the open-air bath are not connected, so guests are asked to bring a towel and bath towel from their room. Staying guests can use the private-hire family bath for 2,000 yen instead of the usual 3,000 yen, for 50 minutes, with last reception at 8 p.m.

Co-sleeping is free for children ages 0 to 2. Guest rooms have Western-style toilets. The ryokan is certified under the Japan Tourism Agency's Kokoro no Bariafuri (barrier-free of the heart) program, and staff can provide assistance and support.
Access
The ryokan is a 7-minute walk from the Kurokawa Onsen bus stop. If you would like a pickup, let the ryokan know your bus arrival time when you book; even on the day itself, someone can come to meet you 5 to 10 minutes after you call. There are 13 parking spaces, free of charge and with no reservation required. Aso Station is about 40 minutes away by car, or about 1 hour by the Kyushu Odan Bus.
