Dormy Club Karuizawa

A small resort hotel with 24 rooms in total, in the Sengataki area of Naka-Karuizawa (3 minutes by car from the Hoshino area). It is certified as a Welcome Baby inn by the Miki House Child-Rearing Research Institute, and the property is designed with babies and children in mind.

There are three family-friendly room types:

• New-wing Japanese-Western room (40 sq m, up to 5 adults, Simmons beds, a twin or double room plus a Japanese-style tatami room) - suited to three-generation families, with tatami where babies can crawl
• Maisonette (33 sq m, up to 5 adults, Simmons beds, living room on the 1st floor and bedroom on the 2nd, with the feel of a private villa) - suited to energetic children
• Spacious 13.5-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami room (40 sq m, up to 5 adults, with a kotatsu set up in winter) - suited to three-generation families and families with babies

There are separate bathing areas for men and women, with an open-air bath and an indoor bath. The open-air bath is built with two kinds of wood, pale unfinished timber and red pine, so opening the door brings the scent of wood along with the steam. The new wing also has two private-hire baths, a hinoki-cypress bath and a stone bath. The water is Togoru no Yu, a semi-natural onsen (an artificial hot spring), and bathing hours run from 3 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. the next morning, with no swap between the men's and women's sides. The diaper-changing table is in the women's bath.

Dinner is a creative French course menu. For children, you can choose by approximate age among a kids' meal (ages 3-6), a Hamburg steak set (ages 6-10) and the adult menu (ages 8 and up). Baby food can be warmed, and sharing from the adults' dishes or bringing your own is also fine. Allergies must be reported at least 3 days in advance. For mealtimes, the hotel provides children's forks and spoons, a bowl, a small plate, a bib, a Bumbo seat, a children's chair and a belt to secure a child to a chair.

Free rental items, in limited quantities, include low-irritant shampoo and body soap, a step stool for children, wet wipes, a shower chair, a baby bath, a baby bath chair, a bed guard, a water thermometer, bath toys, picture books, a toilet-training seat, a bedwetting mat, outlet covers and a children's toothbrush. The kids' space in a corner of the lobby near the restaurant has picture books and toys, and the ice pop corner on the 1st floor is free to use. The building has two floors and no elevator.
