forumWhat families say
Guests are very enthusiastic about being able to enjoy as much alcohol, snacks and ice cream as they like in the lounge. They also praise the renovated interiors, with some calling it their best stay yet. On the other hand, some note that you need to keep an eye on the serving times for the handmade snacks.

Overview
Beppu Onsen Takatsubaki no Oyado Hanabeppu is an onsen ryokan a 6-minute walk from the west exit of Beppu Station, which reopened in March 2026 as an all-inclusive property. Every guest room is a Japanese-style tatami room or Japanese-Western room finished with Ryukyu tatami, in four types ranging from the twin room Otome to Hagoromo, which sleeps up to 4. The all-inclusive lounge on the second floor has a book corner and a kids' space, and families can also enjoy children's and preschool-age kaiseki meals and a private-hire bath the whole family can use (reservation required).
Rooms
Guest rooms come in four types: the Japanese-style twin Otome, the Japanese-Western rooms Chidori, Yumeakari and Hagoromo, and the special rooms Oborozuki, Kokonoe and Sasameyuki. All are Japanese-style tatami rooms or Japanese-Western rooms finished with Ryukyu tatami, and every room is non-smoking. Otome is 27-29 sq m with a shower booth and two beds measuring 110 cm wide by 200 cm long. On stay plans for Otome, upper-grade elementary school children pay 70% of the adult rate and lower-grade elementary school children pay 50%. Chidori and Yumeakari are 34 sq m with a shower booth. Hagoromo, generously sized at 42 sq m or more, has a bathtub, and sofa beds have been newly added in some of these rooms so that, combined with futon bedding, they can sleep up to 4 guests. The special rooms (Oborozuki, Kokonoe and Sasameyuki) have two beds, and futons can be added when 3 or more guests stay.
Dining
Dinner can be chosen from three kaiseki courses. The hot-pot dish made with Oita Prefecture ingredients comes with 12 condiments. Children's meals are prepared according to age: upper-grade elementary school children are served the same meal as adults, while lower-grade elementary school children, babies and toddlers are served a kids' meal. At dinner, the children's kaiseki and the preschool-age kaiseki are presented in wooden boxes, and one type of children's breakfast plate is available in the morning. For food allergies, the ryokan can discuss the 29 designated ingredients if you notify them when booking, but it cannot accommodate allergies to eggs, wheat, soy, dairy, dashi stock or other ingredients fundamental to Japanese cuisine, and it cannot accommodate requests made on the day of arrival.
Baths and Onsen
The onsen is a sodium bicarbonate spring, and both the communal bath and the open-air bath have separate facilities for men and women. The indoor baths flow directly from the source and have tatami flooring, so everyone from small children to older guests can bathe with peace of mind. A micro-bubble bath and a mist sauna are installed in the women's communal bath only. There is also a private-hire bath (family bath) that families can use together, available from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the last slot starting at 9 p.m., at 2,200 yen for 50 minutes and by reservation.
Family-friendly features
Children are welcome to stay. The all-inclusive lounge Ippuku on the second floor has a book corner and a kids' space, free for staying guests. When a child who has not yet started elementary school co-sleeps, a facility fee of 3,300 yen applies. Children's loungewear (an extra 300 yen) and items to borrow are available, though quantities are limited.
Access
It is a 6-minute walk from the west exit of JR Beppu Station, a convenient location for families traveling by public transport. By car, it is about 13 minutes from the Beppu IC on the Oita Expressway. There are 15 free parking spaces for staying guests, but numbers are limited, spaces are first-come, first-served, and advance reservations are not possible. If the lot is full, staff will direct you to an affiliated parking lot near Beppu Station about a 10-minute walk away, and the ryokan covers the parking fee.
