Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive resort on a hillside overlooking Beppu Bay in Hiji, Oita. Dinner and breakfast, drinks in the lounge, the onsen and activities are all included in the room rate. Co-sleeping is free for children under elementary school age, and family-friendly facilities include a nursing room, baby-item rentals and a summer-only garden pool. It is the only official hotel of the Sanrio character park Harmonyland, about 13 minutes away by car.

The hotel offers a wide range of room types - Japanese-style tatami rooms, twins and suites - most of them a generous 36 sq m or larger. The Japanese-style tatami room is 36 sq m with 10 tatami mats and futon bedding for 4 and comes with a TV, Wi-Fi, a kettle, a refrigerator, a bathtub and shower, and a safe; it sleeps 1 to 4 guests. The Superior Twin is 36 sq m with 2 single beds and 2 extra beds for 1 to 4 guests. The Family Superior Room is 36 sq m with 2 single beds and 1 pull-out bed, plus a projector that displays up to 100 inches. The Japanese Modern Family Room has 36 sq m of tatami flooring with 2 low beds, and laying 3 futons on the tatami area brings its capacity to 5 guests. The higher-grade Standard Deluxe Suite is 160 sq m with 4 single beds and 2 extra beds for 1 to 6 guests. Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms can have the futons already laid out when you check in. As for children's rates, elementary school children pay the same rate as adults, as do children ages 3 to 6 who have not yet started elementary school and need bedding. Co-sleeping is free for children under elementary school age, with up to one child per adult. Co-sleeping for ages 0 to 2 is free when you choose the option without meals or bedding.

Meals are served buffet-style at the restaurant Le Sensoriel on the 2nd floor. The stay is all-inclusive: the room rate covers dinner, breakfast and drinks in the lounge, with more than 60 items at breakfast and more than 40 at dinner. The breakfast buffet runs from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with last entry at 9 a.m., and the dinner buffet from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with last entry at 8:30 p.m. Lunch is not served. Examples of baby food are shown, and for children there is a kids' meal served with corn soup topped with popcorn.
Baths and Onsen
The open-air onsen bath Hiji Onsen uses a spring source that rises on the property. The spring water is a sodium chloride onsen, and there is also a communal bath and a sauna. The communal bath is open from 3 p.m. to midnight and again from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The bathing area has body soap and shampoo, as well as baby soap. Baby baths are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis when you check in; they cannot be reserved in advance and quantities are limited. Guests with tattoos may bathe only if the tattoos can be covered using up to two 8 x 10 cm cover seals.
