Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive resort on a hill overlooking Beppu Bay in Hiji, Oita. Dinner, breakfast, lounge drinks, onsen, activities and more are included in the accommodation rate. Co-sleeping is free for children under elementary school age, and family-friendly facilities include a nursing room, baby-item rentals and a summer-only garden pool. It is the only official hotel of the Sanrio character park Harmonyland, about 13 minutes away by car.
Rooms
The hotel mainly offers spacious rooms of 36 sq m or more, including Japanese-style tatami rooms, twin rooms and suites. The Japanese-style tatami room is 10 tatami mats and includes futon bedding for 4, a TV, Wi-Fi, a kettle, refrigerator, bathtub and shower, and a safe; it accommodates 1-4 guests. The Superior Twin is 36 sq m with 2 single beds and 2 extra beds, for 1-4 guests. The Family Superior Room is 36 sq m with 2 single beds and 1 pull-out bed, plus a projector of up to 100 inches. The Japanese Modern Family Room has 36 sq m of tatami flooring with 2 low beds; adding 3 futons to the tatami area allows up to 5 guests. The higher-category Standard Deluxe Suite is 160 sq m with 4 single beds and 2 extra beds, for 1-6 guests. Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western-style rooms can be prepared with the futons already laid out at check-in. Elementary school-age children are charged the same rate as adults, as are children under school age aged 3-6 who need bedding. Co-sleeping is free for children under elementary school age, with 1 child per adult permitted. Co-sleeping for children aged 0-2 is free when selecting “meals and bedding not included.”

Buffet meals are served at Le Sensoriel on the 2nd floor. The all-inclusive accommodation rate includes dinner, breakfast and drinks at the lounge, with more than 60 breakfast menu items and more than 40 dinner menu items. The breakfast buffet is served from 7:00 to 9:30, with final admission at 9:00, and the dinner buffet runs from 17:30 to 21:00, with final admission at 20:30. Lunch is not served. Examples of baby food are also introduced, and a kids' meal served with corn soup with popcorn is available for children.
Baths and onsen
The hotel has the Hiji Onsen open-air bath, using a natural hot spring source that rises on the property. The spring water is a sodium chloride hot spring, and the hotel also has a communal bath and sauna. The communal bath is open from 15:00 to 24:00 and from 6:00 to 10:00 in the morning. Body soap, shampoo and baby soap are provided in the bathing area. Baby baths are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis at check-in; advance reservations are not available and supplies are limited. Guests with tattoos may bathe only if they can be fully covered using up to two 8x10cm cover seals.
