Oniyama Hotel is an onsen ryokan in the heart of Beppu's Kannawa Onsen, a 1-minute walk from the Jigoku Meguri (Hells tour) area. Its communal bath and open-air bath are fed directly from the source by the Oniyama Jigoku spring next door. Rooms are mainly Japanese-style tatami rooms, with Western-style twin rooms and the universal-design Yuraku rooms, which have their own free-flowing onsen bath. Co-sleeping is accepted for children who have not yet started elementary school, and two kinds of kids' meals are prepared, one for elementary school children and one for younger children. There is no private-hire bath, so bathing is at the communal bath and open-air bath only.
Rooms
Guest rooms are mainly Japanese-style tatami rooms, with Western-style rooms and universal rooms as well. The 10-tatami Japanese-style room accommodates 2 to 4 guests and has a shower and toilet. The 18.5 sq m Japanese-style room has a bathtub and toilet, while the 16.2 sq m Japanese-style room has only a shower booth. The Deluxe Twin, completed in 2022, has two semi-double beds along with a shower and toilet. In February 2025 two new room types opened: Kutsurogi Wa-Modern (24.3 sq m plus a broad window-side space) and the twin-bedded Modern Premier Room (a 26.7 sq m Japanese-style room plus a broad window-side space and a bedroom). The universal-design Yuraku has its own onsen bath fed directly from the source and is built so that guests using a wheelchair can move around without difficulty. If the number of guests exceeds a room's capacity, including children who are co-sleeping, the booking may not be accepted.
Dining
Breakfast is served at the restaurant Nagomi from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., either as a Japanese-Western buffet or as a Japanese set breakfast; guests cannot choose which. Dinner is a kaiseki course, with start times to choose from between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Plans with in-room dining are also available for up to 6 guests, and if you book two rooms, in-room dining can be arranged in one of them. In-room dining is not offered at breakfast. For children, there is a kids' meal set for elementary school children (from 4,400 yen) and a young children's meal set with mini udon (1,650 yen); orders are also accepted on the day. Children in the upper grades of elementary school are served the same kaiseki meal as adults, while children in the lower grades receive the kids' meal. Allergy requests must be made at least one week before the date of stay, and meals with an allergen completely removed cannot be provided. Guests are asked to refrain from bringing food or drink to dinner, but baby food may be brought in.
Baths
The communal bath and open-air bath, named Oniyama no Yu and Kuberi no Yu, are on the 1st floor and open from 3 p.m. to midnight and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. The spring water is a chloride spring, flowing directly from the Oniyama Jigoku source. The private-hire bath and family bath closed in March 2024, so bathing is at the communal bath and open-air bath only. Under a revision to the prefectural ordinance, children may be taken into the bath of the opposite sex only up to age 6. Towels are not provided at the communal bath, so bring them from your room. Reaching the communal bath and open-air bath involves roughly 10 to 20 steps. The universal room Yuraku has an in-room onsen bath fed directly from the source, available 24 hours.

Co-sleeping is accepted for up to 2 children, and babies and toddlers cannot be accepted on the following bases: with meals and bedding, without meals but with bedding, or with meals but without bedding. For a baby or toddler with bedding only, a charge of 3,300 yen applies. For children ages 3 and over who have not yet started elementary school, a separate facility-use fee is required. Children's yukata are provided in large, medium and small sizes; for children booked on a one-night, two-meal basis they are included in the room rate, while for children booked for co-sleeping with dinner only they can be provided at 315 yen each. A microwave for babies and toddlers is also available to borrow. The Yuraku rooms are fully barrier-free, and 2 of them have electric beds and are designed to suit wheelchair users.
Access
Turn right at the traffic light from Beppu IC; the hotel is about 5 minutes away by car. Parking is available for 50 vehicles, at 500 yen per night for cars and 1,000 yen for buses. There is no shuttle from the nearest bus stop; a drop-off bus to Beppu Station runs only after checkout, as a single departure at 10 a.m., by reservation. For the Jigoku Meguri, even the farthest of the Hells, Umi Jigoku, is about a 5-minute walk, and starting from neighboring Shiraike Jigoku you can visit 5 of them in one round. At the entrance to the parking area behind the hotel there are 4 electric-vehicle charging points, which staying guests have priority for but which are also open to the general public.
