Overview

Yufuin Sansuikan is a long-established ryokan founded in Meiji 44, about an 8-minute walk from Yufuin Station. Guests can soak in an open-air bath looking out at Mount Yufu and enjoy a breakfast buffet of about 50 Japanese and Western dishes, with the Executive Buffet for dinner. Children are welcome to stay: strollers for young children, children's yukata and amenities for young children are available, and the second floor has the Smile Spot, a space with play equipment. Meals cannot be adapted for allergies, so please check in advance.

Rooms

The Western-style twin room (34 sq m, on the Mount Yufu side) has two beds measuring 120 cm wide by 190 cm long and these rooms are on the 3rd and 4th floors. The more affordable Compact Twin (17 sq m) has two beds of the same size, but it faces the railway line, so there is no view toward Mount Yufu, and Wi-Fi cannot be used in the room. The Japanese-style tatami room (12.5 tatami mats) is a tatami space you can walk on barefoot, described as reassuring even when traveling with small children, and it takes 2 to 4 guests. For larger groups there is Family Room 301, a Western-style room with two double-size bunk beds, and Family Room 401, with four single beds on the lower level and two double-size beds on the upper level. All rooms are non-smoking.

Dining

Dinner is the Executive Buffet, made with Oita Prefecture ingredients selected by the chef, including Oita Wagyu beef steak grilled on the teppan at the live kitchen. Breakfast is a buffet of about 50 Japanese and Western dishes. The buffet venue also has a baby-food corner. Children's chairs and children's tableware are provided in the dining venue, but there are no children's chairs at the free-drink corner in the lounge. Please note that meals cannot be adapted for allergies.

Baths and Onsen

There are two open-air communal baths, Yufu-no-Yu and Asagiri-no-Yu, which switch between men's and women's use, so guests can use both. The spring water is an alkaline simple onsen, said to be gentle on the skin. There is no private-hire bath, so bathing with your children means using the communal baths. A bath chair is installed in the communal bath, and a baby bath is among the items you can borrow for your room.

Family-Friendly Features

Three strollers for young children are available to borrow with advance reservation. Children's yukata come in large, medium and small sizes (the sash is the same as the adult one), and amenities for young children including a drawstring pouch, a face towel and a toothbrush set are provided free of charge. The Smile Spot on the second floor is a multi-purpose space with a tatami area, play equipment such as a slide, and a table-tennis table, enjoyable for everyone from small children to adults. Whether co-sleeping is allowed and what it costs depend on the plan: on some plans co-sleeping is free for children aged 2 and under, while other plans do not accept co-sleeping for babies and young children, so please check before booking. An admission fee is required for children from age 0 up to those who have not yet started elementary school.
