Yufuin Ryokan Nogiku is a room-only ryokan with 7 rooms in Yufuin Onsen. Every room has its own private bath fed straight from the spring source, so you can enjoy the alkaline simple onsen, which is gentle on the skin, without running into other guests. Meals are not served, so guests eat at restaurants in the area. Children aged 0 to 2 stay free of charge, and children aged 3 to 5 pay a facility fee. The private-hire sauna cannot be used by children of elementary school age and under, for safety reasons. Yufuin Station is about a 10-minute walk away, and parking is free.
Rooms
There are three room types, and all of them are Japanese-style tatami rooms with a private bath. The detached type, which looks out to Mount Yufu, is a freestanding building of 56.8 square meters made up of two Japanese-style tatami rooms of 10 and 6 tatami mats, sleeping 1 to 5 guests. The row-house type has a 40-square-meter room with 10 tatami mats, a veranda and a semi-open-air bath, sleeping 1 to 3 guests, and Tsurumi, a 37-square-meter room with 10 tatami mats and an indoor bath, also sleeping 1 to 3 guests. Each room comes with a toilet, a washbasin, a refrigerator and a closet.
Dining
Meals are not served; this is a room-only ryokan. Neither breakfast nor dinner is provided, and instead the staff will point you toward restaurants they recommend.
Baths and Onsen
The water is an alkaline simple onsen that is gentle on the skin. It is rich in metasilicic acid, a natural moisturizing component, and has a cleansing effect that lifts away old dead skin and dirt from the pores. This hot spring flows straight from the source into the private bath in every room, and you are free to use it from check-in until checkout. There are also two private-hire saunas with an adjoining open-air bath, Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi; they carry a separate charge and must be reserved in advance, and for safety reasons children of elementary school age and under cannot use them.
Family-Friendly Features
Children aged 0 to 2 stay free of charge, co-sleeping without futon bedding, and children aged 3 to 5 pay 2,000 yen, also co-sleeping without futon bedding; if futon bedding is needed, an additional 1,500 yen applies. Because every room has its own private bath, you can get into the tub just with your family, even with a young child. On the other hand, children of elementary school age and under cannot use the private-hire sauna, so the ryokan does not suit a family visit centered on the sauna. Inside there is a 20-tatami-mat tearoom, where children and adults alike can enjoy a free game rental service, ice cream after a bath, and all-you-can-drink tea and coffee.
