This is an onsen resort where freestanding detached cottages and Japanese-style main building rooms are dotted across vast gardens of more than 10,000 tsubo (a tsubo is a traditional unit of about 3.3 sq m). The open-air bath looking out to Mount Yufu is popular as a bijin no yu, a bath said to be good for the complexion, and there are detached cottages with their own onsen bath. There are 26 guest rooms in all: 14 in the main building and 12 detached cottages. A detached cottage without an open-air bath has a 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room and an 8-tatami Western-style twin bedroom, sleeps 1 to 5 guests, and has two beds measuring 95 cm wide by 200 cm long. A detached cottage with an open-air bath is 40 sq m, pairing a 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room and an 8-tatami Western-style room with its own open-air bath, and sleeps 2 to 5 guests. A detached cottage with a semi-open-air bath is likewise 40 sq m, comes with its own semi-open-air bath, and sleeps 2 to 5 guests. These open-air and semi-open-air baths are onsen, flowing straight from the source. The main building rooms are Japanese-Western rooms of about 16 tatami mats and sleep 1 to 5 guests. Getting from the main building to the detached cottages involves stairs.

Dinner is a creative Japanese kaiseki course built around local produce from the mountains and the sea, including Kanmuri jidori chicken and Bungo beef, and breakfast is Japanese only. Meals are normally served in the main building restaurant, though guests staying in a detached cottage with an open-air bath or a semi-open-air bath, or guests on certain plans, are served in a private dining room instead. Children's meals are also available, at 3,300 yen for dinner and 1,100 yen for breakfast. Baths and Onsen
Yufuin Onsen is a simple onsen, and because it contains hydrogen carbonate, which softens the surface of the skin, it is known as a bijin no yu, a bath said to be good for the complexion. The communal bath, Tenshin no Oyu, has an open-air rock bath and a cypress bath looking out to Mount Yufu, with separate baths for men and women. It is open from 6 a.m. to midnight and cannot be used from midnight to 6 a.m. There are 2 private-hire bath buildings, free for staying guests and needing no reservation, so you can use one whenever it is available.
