Urabandai Lake Resort Geihinkan Nekoma Rikyu is an 83-room resort hotel standing at about 800 m above sea level on a plateau inside a national park. Formerly the Urabandai Nekoma Hotel, it has the guests-only Niji no Mori Onsen, and guests can also use the communal bath and open-air bath at the main building, Goshiki no Mori. There are 2 private-hire baths finished in Aomori hiba wood, so you can bathe together with a young child. Children's yukata and toothbrushes are available, hot water for formula can be prepared, and one room type has a tatami-floored bedroom where futons are laid out for up to 8 guests. Rooms
Of the 83 rooms, all but the Premium Comfort Suite and the Premium Japanese Suite have Simmons beds. The Standard Twin is 36 sq m for 2 guests, with two beds measuring 120 cm wide. The Superior Twin is 41 sq m and sleeps up to 3 guests, and the Penthouse Deluxe Twin is 58 sq m and sleeps up to 2 guests. Among the suites, the Luxury Suite and the Lake View Suite are 82 sq m, the three Premium rooms are 139 sq m, and The Royal Suite is 200 sq m. The easiest choice for a larger family is the Premium Japanese Suite, the only room with a Japanese-style tatami area: futons are laid out in its tatami-floored bedroom for up to 8 guests. The Premium Villa Suite sleeps up to 4 guests. The Premium Comfort Suite is the only room with a view bath, and the baths in the guest rooms are not fed by the hot spring. Guest rooms list a humidifier, available to borrow, and the front desk also lends out fans, irons and similar items. Every room is non-smoking.
Dining
Meals are served in the restaurants, and there is no in-room dining. Dinner is at Maple, the French restaurant on the 3rd floor of Geihinkan Nekoma Rikyu, open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with last entry at 8 p.m. Children in the third grade of elementary school and below cannot use this dinner service, so families with young children generally stay on a room-only or breakfast-included basis. Breakfast is served at Maple and at the Hibara Dining buffet, both from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; the buffet venue on the 1st floor of the main building, Goshiki no Mori, is about a 5-minute walk away. If anyone in your party has a food allergy, let the hotel know at least 3 days before your stay and it will suggest an alternative meal, covering the 7 specified allergenic ingredients and the 21 ingredients treated as equivalent. The buffet labels allergens for egg, wheat, milk, buckwheat, peanut, shrimp and crab, and if you need to, you may bring your own food after contacting the hotel in advance. The hotel does note, however, that because dishes are cooked in the same kitchen and tableware is washed in the same machine, allergens cannot be completely removed. A children's set meal is prepared for young children when a Japanese kaiseki meal is requested, but the Japanese restaurant Waraku, where it is served, has suspended operations for the time being and cannot be used at present.

The spring water is a sodium chloride and sulfate onsen. The guests-only Niji no Mori Onsen is open from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. (last admission 11 a.m.) and from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. (last admission 10 p.m.), and Lake Hibara can be seen from the open-air bath. The communal bath Aurora no Yu, on the 1st floor of the main building, Goshiki no Mori, is open from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (last admission 9:30 a.m.) and from 1:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. the next morning (last admission midnight). For families who would rather bathe with their children without worrying about other guests, there are 2 private-hire baths finished in Aomori hiba wood. They can be used from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with cleaning from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Each holds up to 4 people and costs an additional 1,000 yen including tax per room for one hour, by reservation. Whether a child who is not yet out of diapers may get into the tub has not been confirmed, so please ask when you book. The high-temperature sauna is open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

No reservation is needed to use the shuttle bus, but groups of 10 or more must reserve. Parking is free for 350 cars, with no reservation needed. Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m.; depending on availability, late checkout can also be arranged for an additional charge. In winter, Urabandai Ski Resort and Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Ski Resort are 15 minutes away by car, and transfers are available to both. Snow is possible from early December, so if you are driving you will need to prepare with studless tires or similar. The hotel is closed from Sunday, November 29 to Friday, December 4, 2026.
