Tsuchiyu Onsen Hotel Sansuiso is a large hot-spring ryokan built along the gorge in Tsuchiyu Onsen, the secluded retreat of Fukushima City. Guest rooms range widely, from Shisuitei, whose rooms have a semi-open-air bath fed straight from the source, to the mainly Japanese-style tatami rooms of Kachoen and Shinonome. Inside, there are eight onsen baths of differing character, from the communal bath through to private-hire baths, four of which are private-hire. There is also an indoor heated pool that can be used year-round. Accommodation plans for families with babies and kids' meal menus are available, so the ryokan is set up for a family onsen trip.
Rooms
Every room in Shisuitei has a semi-open-air bath fed straight from the source, plus a terrace. The Shakunage suite is the ryokan's largest at 92 sq m, with a 15-tatami-mat Japanese-style room and twin beds, while the Mizubasho suite fits a 14.2-tatami-mat Japanese-style room and a Western-style living room into 84 sq m. Kachoen rooms are non-smoking, with a 12.5-tatami-mat Japanese-style room for up to 6 guests, and Shinonome rooms have a 10-tatami-mat Japanese-style room looking out toward the mountains. The Kachoen guest rooms are prepared with comfortable bedding and an air purifier with a humidifying function.
Dining
Dinner is a Japanese kaiseki course made with seasonal ingredients, and kids' menus are prepared for elementary school children and preschool-age children. Allergies can be accommodated if you let the ryokan know in advance. A low-allergen kids' meal is also available if requested at least 7 days before your stay. Breakfast is a buffet built around popular Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, with more than 40 items on offer at all times.
Baths and Onsen
The onsen is a simple spring, drawn from an abundant source that yields 230 liters per minute at 60 degrees Celsius and brought to a comfortable temperature with naturally welling water. Inside, there are eight onsen baths of differing character, from the communal bath through to private-hire baths, four of which are private-hire. A private-hire bath costs 1,100 yen for one hour (Seiten-no-Yu alone is 2,200 yen) and is reserved on the day, after check-in. The tubs in the communal bath are fitted with handrails.

The ryokan is about 45 minutes from Fukushima Station by bus bound for Tsuchiyu Onsen, or about 30 minutes by car, and about 15 minutes by car from the Fukushima-Nishi IC on the Tohoku Expressway. A free shuttle from the West Exit of Fukushima Station is also available; it is by reservation, and you must apply by 3 p.m. the day before. There are 60 free parking spaces, and no reservation is needed.
