Masuya is a ryokan in the hot-spring town of Naruko Onsen, about a 5-minute walk from Naruko-Onsen Station. Most rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 6 to 14 tatami mats, and there is also a Japanese-Western room with 2 beds in an 8-mat tatami area, plus a tatami suite that sleeps up to 9, so families can choose a room that keeps everyone together. Breakfast and dinner are both buffets in the restaurant, where children's tableware, children's chairs and baby food are available. The communal baths alternate between men and women and include an open-air bath with a view and a kettle-shaped bath filled with medicinal herbal water, and children's items such as baby baths and baby chairs are kept there too. Rooms
The ryokan has 70 rooms in total, mainly Japanese-style tatami rooms (room sizes are given in tatami mats). The Economy rooms come in 6 mats (with bath and toilet, for 1 to 2 guests) and 8 mats (1 to 3 guests). The Standard rooms come in 10 mats (1 to 4 guests), 12 mats (1 to 5 guests) and 14 mats (1 to 7 guests). The New Wing has Superior rooms of 10 mats (1 to 4 guests) and 12 mats (1 to 5 guests), and there is a Suite tatami room of 12.5 plus 8 mats (32 sq m, 1 to 9 guests). Every one of these rooms has its own bath. The Main Building also has a Standard Japanese-Western room (1 to 6 guests) with 2 single beds in an 8-mat tatami area, so you can sleep on a mix of beds and futons. The 14-mat room takes up to 7 sets of futon bedding and the Suite up to 9, which makes it easy for families with several children, or three generations together, to share one room. The Economy 6-mat room is a cramped room with no view, and you cannot choose which floor it is on. The refrigerator is left empty, so drinks come from the shop or the vending machines. Room equipment includes a hair dryer and a toilet with a washing function, and a humidifier is available to borrow, which helps families with children during the drier months. The water in the in-room baths is not onsen water. There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms; it is available only around the first-floor lobby.
Dining
Breakfast and dinner are both buffets in the restaurant, and in-room dining is not offered. Dinner runs from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., though hours may change depending on the number of guests staying that day. Meal times cannot be reserved in advance; guests give their preferred time in the order they check in, so families who want an early dinner for their children are better off checking in early. The Ooedo Three-Star Buffet began on April 22, 2026, featuring seafood shipped straight from the market, Japanese Black beef loin yakisuki (grilled sukiyaki-style) from the live kitchen, and desserts such as cake and ice cream. For young children, the restaurant provides children's tableware and chairs, and baby food, free of charge. If you would like baby food, just ask a member of staff. There is no microwave on the premises, so if something needs warming, ask at the front desk. As for food allergies, the ryokan advises that it does not prepare individual allergy meals and cannot answer detailed questions about ingredients. Because the meals are buffet-style, with shared serving chopsticks, tongs and dishes, keeping allergens completely separate is difficult, and ingredients are not labeled item by item. Baths and Onsen
There are 2 communal baths, which alternate between men and women. The spring water is a sulfur-containing sodium chloride spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, high-temperature), with water added, heating applied and partial recirculation and filtration. Along with the open-air bath with a view, there is Tensho, a kettle-shaped bath filled with medicinal herbal water blended from 11 herbal medicines, though this medicinal bath is not onsen water. Hours are 3 p.m. to midnight and 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.; they may change for cleaning, and the open-air bath may close depending on the weather. Children aged 7 and over, or 120 cm tall and over, use the bath for their own gender. Handrails are installed, but guests are asked to take great care with steps and level changes, so watch your footing when walking with your child. No towels or bath towels are provided at the baths, so bring the towel and bath towel from your room. The changing rooms have free lockers with keys. There is no private-hire bath, and no baby bed is provided at the baths. Guests with tattoos cannot use the communal baths, except when the tattoo can be fully covered with the ryokan's designated cover seals, which are sold for a fee. Staying guests can also bathe free of charge elsewhere in Naruko Onsen, at the group property Kounkaku and at the public bathhouse Taki no Yu; just let the front desk know when you head out to visit them.

Access
The ryokan is about a 5-minute walk from Naruko-Onsen Station, and within 3 hours of Tokyo with just one transfer. There is no shuttle from the station. Masuya itself has no parking; guests are directed to P1, a free parking lot across from the sister property Kounkaku, and if you get in touch after parking, staff will come to pick you up. Snow and icy roads are expected in winter, so if you are driving you will need snow tires or similar equipment. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and please get in touch if you will arrive after 6 p.m. Checkout is at 11 a.m.
