Nozomi Glamping & Spa Saku x Karuizawa is a glamping property on a hilltop looking out at Mount Asama, where two types of accommodation stand side by side: dome tents and suite villas. Every unit stands on its own as a separate building, with its own shower room or bathroom and toilet, and both the BBQ dinner and breakfast are served on the private BBQ deck attached to your room. The deck can be enclosed with vinyl curtains, so you can still eat out there in the rain. A crib (for a fee), a bed guard, a diaper pail and a children's chair can be prepared if you request them in advance. The natural hot spring on the 5th floor of the main building can be used at no charge throughout your stay, but children who are not yet out of diapers cannot use the communal bath. Allergies and disliked ingredients cannot be accommodated.

There are two types: dome tents and suite villas. The dome tents include the 25.4 sq m Standard Dome (three semi-single beds), the Standard Dome with a Swing (one semi-single bed and one queen bed) and the 34.6 sq m Dome with a Dog Run (four semi-single beds), all with a shower and toilet. Both the Standard Dome with a Swing and the Standard Dome (three semi-single beds) allow co-sleeping for up to 2 children. The suite villas are spacious at 246.2 to 293.6 sq m, with a bathroom and toilet. The Suite Villa with a Private Sauna (sleeping 8, with a loft) is 293.58 sq m, with 2 queen beds, 2 single beds and 1 double sofa bed, and sleeps up to 8 guests. The Suite Villa with a Sauna and the Suite Villa (without a sauna) have 2 queen beds and 1 single sofa bed, sleeping up to 5 guests when the sofa bed is used. Every room has air conditioning, a refrigerator with a freezer and an air purifier, and the villas also have a mini kitchen and a microwave. The dome tents have no microwave, so guests use the one in the management building. All rooms are non-smoking, and handrails, wheelchairs to borrow and writing pads for written communication are available. Each dome tent has its own BBQ deck and a hammock; in winter, gas heaters and lap blankets are provided, and in summer, mesh curtains and mosquito repellent inside the tent. In winter a heater is placed on the BBQ deck as well.
Dining
The stay includes dinner and breakfast. Dinner is a BBQ with Tateshina beef sirloin steak and ingredients from Shinshu, and breakfast brings hot sandwiches, yogurt and more. Both breakfast and dinner are served on the private BBQ deck attached to your room, which can be enclosed with vinyl curtains, so the BBQ goes ahead in any weather. If the weather is bad enough that a BBQ is not possible, arrangements are made on site. After the BBQ you can gather around a fire in the campfire area, though toasted marshmallows and Camembert cheese cost extra. Allergies and disliked ingredients cannot be accommodated. Guests with allergies may bring their own food, so please bring it with you. As a rule, guests are asked to refrain from bringing in ingredients or drinks apart from meals for children; the villas are an exception, as they have a mini kitchen inside the room. The management building has a free-drink service with draft beer and soft drinks, and the villa refrigerators also hold complimentary alcoholic and soft drinks.
Baths and Onsen
Along with the shower room or bathroom in your room, you can use Sanpia Onsen on the 5th floor of the main building free of charge at any time during your stay. It is about a 2-minute walk from the glamping area to the main building, and the hours are 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., with last admission at 9:20 p.m. The spring water is a simple onsen (a weakly alkaline, hypotonic hot spring), and there is a communal bath, an open-air bath and a sauna. Anyone using diapers cannot use the communal bath, so children who are not yet out of diapers use the shower or bathroom in the room instead. The age limit for mixed bathing has been lowered to 6 and under. Guests with tattoos too large to be covered with a sticker cannot enter. If you stay on a third Wednesday, the natural hot spring is unavailable the next day, the third Thursday, because the main building is closed (there are no closure days from July through September).
Family-Friendly Features
Children's rates are the same as an adult's from junior high school age, 80% of the adult rate for upper-grade elementary school children with the same meal as an adult, 50% for lower-grade elementary school children with meals and futon bedding (a kids' meal), 30% for children from age 3 who have not yet started elementary school, likewise with meals and futon bedding, and no charge for ages 0 to 2 with no meals and no futon bedding. For babies and children there are kids' amenities, a crib (for a fee), a bed guard and a diaper pail, all of which must be requested when booking. A children's chair is available too, and also needs to be requested in advance. To use the sauna in a suite villa with a sauna, you must bring and wear a swimsuit or a sauna poncho. Lights-out is at 10 p.m. Fireworks may not be brought in from outside, but guests in the dome tents can enjoy fireworks in the fireworks area (the parking lot below the gate) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. between July 1 and September 30, and villa guests can do so in their private area from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. over the same period; fireworks are also sold in the management building. Firecrackers, rocket fireworks and other loud fireworks are prohibited, and children must be accompanied by an adult when setting off fireworks. The Standard Dome with a Swing has a swing for that tent alone.
Access
About 3 minutes from Saku-minami IC on the Chubu-Odan Expressway, or 15 minutes by taxi from Sakudaira Station on the JR Koumi Line. A free shuttle runs from JR Sakudaira Station by advance reservation made at least 3 days before check-in, with pickup at 2:30 p.m. and drop-offs at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Parking has 60 spaces, free of charge and with no reservation needed, and each suite villa has 2 parking spaces of its own. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and checkout is at 10 a.m. for the dome tents and 11 a.m. for the villas. Late checkout is possible only when the room is unoccupied the following day, at 3,000 yen for one hour or 6,000 yen for two. Early check-in is not available. If your accommodation charge exceeds 6,000 yen before tax, an accommodation tax of 200 yen per person per night is paid on site. There is a shop on the 1st floor of the main building, a 2-minute walk from the glamping area, and a 7-Eleven is 5 minutes away by car.
