NIPPONIA Chichibu Monzenmachi is a dispersed hotel of 8 rooms across 3 buildings, converted from townhouses that keep the character of the Taisho and Showa eras, a 2-minute walk from Chichibu Shrine. Every room has its own hinoki cypress bath, and each differs in size and character. There is no communal bath and no barrier-free equipment, and because these are historic buildings the insulation is not high, so families with young children are encouraged to check the facilities carefully before booking.
Rooms
This is a dispersed hotel of 8 rooms across 3 buildings, converted from historic buildings that remain in Chichibu's monzenmachi, the town before the shrine gate. It is split between the MARUJU building, formerly the Maruju Pharmacy, and the KOIKE and MIYATANI buildings, converted from the Koike Tobacco Shop and the Miyatani Residence, both Registered Tangible Cultural Properties; each room has its own character. Room 101 is 32.8 sq m for 2 guests, a single-level room on the first floor with a garden view; Room 104 is 50.4 sq m for 4 guests and is the most formal room in the hotel; and Room 202 is a 52.4 sq m Japanese-Western room for 4 guests, well suited to a family of up to 4. Rooms 102, 201, 202 and 203 are maisonette-style, laid out across the first and second floors, with Room 102 using the original staircase from the building's early days to reach its second floor. Every room has its own bath scented with hinoki cypress, and Room 102 has the largest bath in the hotel. Because the original character has been preserved to protect these historic buildings, insulation and airtightness are not high, and there are no televisions, clocks or bright lighting.
Dining
Breakfast is a Chichibu Japanese set meal served at Restaurant MARUJU. The menu pairs rice cooked in a kama pot and miso soup with local Chichibu vegetables and eggs, river fish such as ayu (sweetfish) caught in local rivers, and locally made miso and umeboshi (pickled plums). If you choose a plan with two meals, dinner is a full course of creative cuisine using local vegetables, game meat and river fish. For babies and toddlers you can choose between meals included and no meals, and the number of meals follows the meal terms of your accommodation plan. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Baths
Every guest room has its own hinoki cypress bath, so families can bathe on their own without using a communal or shared bathhouse. The bath in Room 104 has a sunroom attached. There is no onsen, open-air bath, communal bath, sauna or private-hire bath.
