forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.6 out of 5 (2,600 reviews). Guests say that, with the hotel inside Huis Ten Bosch, their elderly parents could relax at an easy pace, and that they could take walks through the park at night and early in the morning. Reviewers mention a wide range of Japanese and Western dishes at the breakfast buffet, with baby food provided for families with children. Guests say the renovated Miffy Room lets you enjoy the world of Miffy. One point to be aware of: reviews note that the bath is the type where you wash yourself inside the bathtub, so it does not lend itself to a leisurely family soak.

Overview

Hotel Amsterdam Huis Ten Bosch is the only hotel located inside the Huis Ten Bosch park, and all 203 of its rooms are at least 45 sq m. Room types include triples for up to 3 guests, Fours (quad rooms) for up to 4 guests, and themed rooms such as the Miffy Room. Each adult can co-sleep with one child up to sixth grade of elementary school free of charge (up to 2 children per room). Cribs and bed guards are available to borrow free of charge, and baby food is offered at the breakfast buffet. There is no communal bath or private-hire bath, so guests bathe in their room's bathroom.

Rooms

The four-story building has 203 guest rooms, all at least 45 sq m, and every room is equipped with a humidifying air purifier. The Superior Rooms on the 1st floor are 45 sq m. The twins have two beds 122 cm wide, and some rooms can sleep 3 or 4 guests with the addition of an extra bed (110 cm wide). There are a few steps on the way from the lobby to the Superior Rooms, so take care if you are using a stroller. The Deluxe Designer Rooms on floors 2 to 4 range from 45 sq m to 100 sq m. Besides twins and doubles, they include triples for up to 3 guests and Fours (quad rooms) for up to 4 guests. The wide types of the Deluxe Designer Room are the Wide Twin (61 sq m, two semi-double beds), the Wide Double (61 sq m, one queen-size bed), the Wide Triple (61 sq m, three regular semi-double beds) and the Wide Fours (52 sq m, four regular semi-double beds). The 100 sq m Suite on the 4th floor sleeps 1 to 2 guests and has a separate living room and bedroom. In most rooms, one bed can be pushed against the wall, but this is not possible in double rooms. The themed rooms are the Miffy Room, furnished with Huis Ten Bosch original furniture, plush toys and goods, and the Chocolate Room, decorated with chocolate-drop motifs and cushions. Some Miffy Rooms can be used by 3 to 4 guests.

Dining

Breakfast and dinner are both buffets at A Coeur Vert, the restaurant on the 1st floor. There is no in-room dining and no room service. Breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and costs 4,800 yen for adults and 2,400 yen for children aged 4 through elementary school (prices may change on peak days such as the year-end and New Year holidays). At the breakfast buffet, several kinds of baby food are prepared for children from around 5 months of age, and kids' tableware, cutlery and chairs are also available; just ask a host crew member (a member of staff). Meals for co-sleeping children are not included in the plan, and meals for children aged 4 and over are paid on site. Breakfast can be paid for at the breakfast venue or charged to your room and settled at checkout, and breakfast is free for children under 4. The restaurant's information page publishes a list of allergen labeling for the breakfast and dinner buffets, but it does not mention individual accommodations such as allergen-free meals, so please contact the hotel in advance if you need them.

Baths

The hotel has no communal bath, private-hire bath or sauna, so guests bathe in their room's bathroom. Nearby is Huis Ten Bosch Onsen, a separate facility (fee applies) with open-air baths, family baths and ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna), and guests of this hotel can use it at a discounted rate by showing their room key. Children wearing diapers and children who are not yet toilet-trained cannot enter the onsen's communal baths and are asked to use a family bath instead (reservation required, accepted from 4 days before the date of use). Children may enter the bath for the opposite sex up to age 6. The onsen is open from 4 p.m. to midnight (last admission 11 p.m.), opening at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

Family-Friendly Features

Each adult can co-sleep with one child up to sixth grade of elementary school free of charge, with a maximum of 2 co-sleeping children per room, even when 3 adults share the room. Bookings bundled with flights or similar are not eligible for free co-sleeping, and on Rakuten's Rakupack packages, children aged 6 and over cannot co-sleep. Co-sleeping children do not receive in-room amenities. The next-day Passport included as a stay benefit also covers co-sleeping children, though children aged 4 and over need to buy a Passport for the check-in day. On booking sites, choose the "infants and young children: no meals or bedding" category for co-sleeping children aged 4 through elementary school. If a child uses a bed, elementary school children and younger children alike are charged the same as an adult (based on an example room-only plan on Ikyu.com). Cribs (ages 0 to under 2, up to 1 per room) and bed guards (ages 1.5 to 5; not available for children outside that range) are available to borrow free of charge, and both must be requested when booking. Information on baby futons is not published, so please confirm with the hotel if you need one. A diaper bin is also available to borrow free of charge (request it when booking), and kids' step stools can be borrowed as well. Free loan items are limited in number, so contact the hotel early. Children's amenities include toothbrushes for children who have not yet started elementary school (free), 16 cm slippers and 120 cm pajamas; ask for pajamas at the front desk on the day. There is no childcare service.

Access

This is the only hotel located inside the Huis Ten Bosch park, a 1-minute walk from Amsterdam Square. Because it sits inside the theme park's paid zone, staying guests also need an admission Passport for their check-in day. Show that day's Passport at check-in and you will receive next-day Passports for each day of your stay. Once inside the park, the hotel is about 5 minutes by park bus from the Welcome bus stop. If you arrive after the admission deadline, contact the hotel from the In-Park Hotel Baggage Storage just before the Welcome Gate, and a dedicated car will come to pick you up. If you arrive between the admission deadline and the park's closing time, you need an admission ticket for that day; if you arrive after closing, you do not. It is about 90 minutes by rapid train from Nagasaki Station. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and checkout is at 11 a.m. (except for some plans).
