forumWhat families say
Rakuten Travel rating 4.37 out of 5 (1,475 reviews). One review from a family who stayed with a 6-month-old reports that the facilities were well equipped and the hospitality warm, so they could travel with peace of mind even with a small child. Guests also mention enjoying the shampoo bar and the self-serve drink station with their children. On the other hand, some report that it took a while for the air conditioning in the room to cool things down.

Overview
Hotel New Hakuaki is a 21-room inn overlooking the Pacific, known for the natural hot spring from its own source and its Japanese kaiseki cuisine. Every room is equipped with a toilet-training seat, a diaper bin and a step stool, and baby baths and baby-bottle cleaning supplies are available to borrow at the front desk. For dinner, children can choose between a jubako (tiered lacquer box) meal for elementary school children and one for children under school age, and allergies can be accommodated. There are 10 room types to choose from, including two-room Japanese-style suites for three-generation families and a room with its own open-air bath.
Rooms
There are 21 rooms in 10 types. The second floor has 2 Western-style rooms, 2 Japanese-Western rooms, 1 Japanese-style tatami room and 1 room with an open-air bath, and the third floor has 11 Japanese-style tatami rooms, 2 Japanese-Western rooms and 2 special rooms. All rooms are non-smoking. Moegi, on the second floor, is a two-room Japanese-style suite with a 10-tatami room and a 4.5-tatami room, a reassuring choice for three-generation families, mixed groups and families with babies. It sleeps up to 7. The top-grade Shion is a 48 sq m room with an open-air bath with a capacity of 4, where twin beds plus a sofa bed and an air bed sleep up to 4 guests, though the room feels tight with 4. On the third floor, the Japanese-style tatami rooms are 12.5 tatami mats and the special rooms are 100 sq m Japanese-Western rooms with a massage chair, with capacity ranging from 2 to 7 guests. Every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function, and baby items are prepared for children. Wi-Fi is available in all rooms.
Dining
All meals are served in the second-floor restaurant; there are no private banquet rooms. Dinner is a Japanese kaiseki course built around seafood, and breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet. For dinner, elementary school children can choose the adult meal, the children's jubako (tiered lacquer box) meal for elementary school children, or the jubako meal for children under school age. The main dish is Hitachiwagyu Hamburg steak, with chicken katsu and fried squid also served. Allergies can be accommodated. The meal for children under school age is the children's meal in a slightly smaller portion, and no meal is included for infants. Children's menus are served only with plans that include dinner; room-only and breakfast-only plans are not eligible. Children's menu items can also be ordered separately: karaage fried chicken for 500 yen, udon for 300 yen and fries for 500 yen. The breakfast buffet includes thick rolled omelet made with Okukuji eggs and a salad bar.
Baths
The natural hot spring comes from the hotel's own source and looks out over the Pacific. The spring water is a sodium chloride spring. The open-air baths are separate for men and women, and the indoor communal bath uses the same source. Bathing hours are 4 p.m. to midnight, and 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning. From Sunday to Thursday the baths also open to day-use visitors, so they can get crowded from around 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Children, including those under school age, may bathe, and small children need a guardian with them. The guest room Shion has its own private open-air bath looking out over the sea. Staying guests can also use the shampoo bar and pick from a selection of shampoos.
Family-friendly features
Every room is equipped with a toilet-training seat, a diaper bin and a step stool. Baby baths and baby-bottle cleaning supplies (Milton) are also available to borrow at the front desk - just ask there - and both are free for staying guests. The air purifiers provided in every room have a humidifying function. Children, including those under school age, may use the baths when accompanied by a guardian. With the family plan "First Family Trip Support," co-sleeping is free (normally 1,650 yen, on condition that the child is booked as a child under school age without meals or futon bedding), the rate for children under school age drops from the usual 50% to 40%, and children receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win dagashi (traditional Japanese penny candy). These benefits apply to this plan only.
