HOTEL GATE IN KAGOSHIMA

forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.54 out of 5 (1,233 reviews). Several guests mention that the water server on each floor is handy for making formula, and families praise the Japanese-style tatami rooms, finished in black tones with tatami flooring, as a place where children can crawl with peace of mind. Some guests also report being given a toy by staff at check-in. On the other hand, a few wondered whether the sound of the water server carries to the next room.

Overview

HOTEL GATE IN KAGOSHIMA is a business hotel in Tenmonkan, the lively downtown district of Kagoshima, a 5-minute walk from the Tenmonkan-dori tram stop. Infants aged 0 to 2 stay free of charge when co-sleeping, and room types include Japanese-style tatami rooms and family-friendly twins. There is no communal bath, private-hire bath or onsen, so bathing is done in each guest room's own bathroom. Breakfast is not included, but you can choose a breakfast plan at an affiliated restaurant a 1-minute walk away, which offers a kids' menu.

Rooms

The hotel has 72 rooms in total. Room types include Single (12 sq m), Double (15 sq m), and Bath Terrace Semi-Double with a semi-open-air bath (13.8 sq m plus 5 sq m), as well as Japanese-style tatami rooms (24 sq m, an 8-tatami room with a combined bath-and-toilet unit), Twin (24 sq m) and Compact Twin (15 sq m). The Japanese-style tatami room can be set up with 4 sets of down futon bedding from the closet, and it has its own bathroom in the room, making it popular with families. In the Twin, both beds are semi-double size, so it can be used for co-sleeping with a child or as a triple room for 3 guests with an extra bed added. In the Compact Twin, the beds are joined side by side, which is reassuring for families with small children. Some plans for the Bath Terrace Semi-Double with a semi-open-air bath do not accept co-sleeping, so please confirm before booking.

Dining

There is no information about breakfast at the hotel itself. Stays are room-only as a rule, but plans with breakfast are also available at the affiliated restaurants Niku to, Pan. and Kushikatsu Nishiyan, both a 1-minute walk away. At both, children of elementary school age and under are served from the kids' menu. The breakfast set at Niku to, Pan. is 1,300 yen for adults and 800 yen for children (orders taken from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.), and the Japanese breakfast at Kushikatsu Nishiyan is 1,200 yen for adults and 700 yen for children (orders taken from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.).

Baths

Every guest room has a combined bath-and-toilet unit. The Bath Terrace Semi-Double with a semi-open-air bath has a regular bath-and-toilet unit in the room in addition to the tub set on the terrace; because of the building's structure, the terrace has no view. There is no onsen, communal bath, private-hire bath or sauna, so bathing with children takes place in each guest room's own bathroom.

Family-Friendly Features

Infants aged 0 to 2 can stay at no additional charge when co-sleeping. Junior high school students and older are counted as one adult. Children's rates for children under school age and elementary school children vary by room type: in Western-style rooms, 550 yen for ages 3 to 6 and 1,100 yen for ages 6 to 12; in Japanese-style tatami rooms, 1,100 yen for ages 3 to 6 and 2,200 yen for ages 6 to 12.
