Overview
Hotel Sundays Kagoshima is a large hotel with 351 rooms in the heart of Tenmonkan. Co-sleeping is free for children through the sixth grade of elementary school, and the breakfast buffet includes children's menu items. Note, however, that no amenities or bedding are provided for co-sleeping children and that cribs are not available to borrow, so bring whatever your family needs. Bathing is done in the bathtub or shower in your room, as there is no communal bath or onsen. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from both the Tenmonkan and Takamibaba tram stops and has its own parking.
Rooms
Hotel Sundays Kagoshima sits in the heart of Tenmonkan and has 351 rooms, making it one of the largest hotels in Kagoshima. The most numerous room type is the Standard Single, which measures 13.5 sq m with a bed 120 cm wide; two guests can share it as a semi-double for a reasonable rate. The Standard Twin is 22 sq m with two single beds and accommodates 1 to 4 guests, so it also works for families. The Wide Shower type is 17 sq m with a roomier 140 cm bed, and its bathroom has a shower booth rather than a bathtub. The Deluxe Twin measures 41.5 sq m and looks out over Sakurajima, Kinko Bay and Shiroyama. Adding an extra bed turns it into a triple room for 3 guests, which must be arranged in advance. Some rooms are connecting rooms that open into the room next door (reservation required), which is handy for families splitting across two rooms. There is also one barrier-free room that can be used with a wheelchair, with no steps inside and a sliding door at the bathroom entrance.
Dining
Breakfast is served at the first-floor restaurant SUNDAYS from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with last orders at 9:30 a.m., as a Japanese and Western buffet. Around 30 Japanese and Western dishes are laid out, and the menu drawing on Kagoshima ingredients and local specialties is well received. The price is 1,320 yen for adults and 660 yen for children ages 3 through elementary school age, while children under 3 eat free. The breakfast buffet also includes children's menu items. If your plan does not include breakfast, you can purchase it by signing up at check-in.
Family-friendly notes
Co-sleeping is free for children through the sixth grade of elementary school. However, only a towel is provided for a co-sleeping child; no other amenities or bedding are included, so please bring what you need. The only children's amenity provided is a toothbrush. Adding breakfast costs extra, and since in-room amenities are not provided for children either, preparing in advance is recommended. Cribs are not available to borrow, so we recommend bringing your own if you need one. There is no onsen, open-air bath or communal bath, and no private-hire bath. Minors cannot stay on their own, and guardian permission is required, so please contact the hotel in advance. For security, the automatic doors are locked after 2 a.m., but guests who have checked in can unlock them with their card key.
Access
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from either the Tenmonkan or Takamibaba tram stop on the Kagoshima City Tram, and 5 minutes by car from JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Traffic restrictions come into effect on the surrounding streets after 6 p.m., so if you are driving, it is worth checking the access map. Parking has 94 spaces allocated in order of arrival at 1,000 yen per night, which will change to 1,100 yen from October 1, 2026. If the lot is full, staff will direct you to an affiliated parking lot. Late checkout is available at 1,000 yen per hour.
