This long-established ryokan, founded during the Kan'ei era of the Edo period, has 58 rooms in total, ranging from a royal suite built by master Kyoto sukiya carpenters to Japanese-Western rooms and Japanese-style tatami rooms. All rooms are nonsmoking. The 150 sq m Royal Suite is limited to guests aged 12 and over, and the special room "Ai," appointed with works by a ceramic artist, is limited to guests aged 15 and over, so families with young children cannot use these 2 room types. In the other Japanese-Western, Western-style and Japanese-style rooms, elementary school children in the upper grades stay at 70% of the adult rate and those in the lower grades at 50%, with a bedding charge of 3,795 yen; the facility-use fee for children under school age is 2,200 yen. The Haiku Lounge Suite is designed for 2 guests, with a sofa bed used from the third guest onward. With dinner included, check-in is from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (from 4 p.m. for the special room "Ai"); without dinner, check-in is available until midnight. Checkout is at 10 a.m.

Baths and Onsen
The water is 100% natural alkaline simple onsen, with listed benefits for neuralgia, muscle pain and joint pain. There are 2 communal baths, Hinoki-yu and Mikage-yu, each with an open-air bath and a sauna, and the men's and women's baths are swapped between morning and evening. They cannot be used from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for cleaning. A free footbath in one corner of the garden is available from noon to 8:30 p.m. Guest rooms with a hinoki bath supplied with water drawn from Dogo Onsen are limited to the Haiku Lounge Suite, the Club Floor and the Royal Suite.
Family-Friendly Features
Cribs are available to borrow in guest rooms, and up to 2 children can co-sleep. On the seasonal Kawaseki riverside plan, offered from April 1 to late October, guests go down a dozen or so stone steps to reach the dining venue and pass along a narrow path between two streams, so families with young children should watch their footing.
