CANDEO HOTELS Nagasaki Shinchichukagai

forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.39 out of 5 (1,831 reviews). Many family travelers praise the location right in front of Chinatown and describe it as an easy base for sightseeing. Guests also praise the buffet breakfast for its wide variety, including local specialties such as Toruko rice. The top-floor open-air bath is popular for its views, but note that the changing room at the communal bath can feel cramped and crowded at busy times, with occasional shortages of lockers and waits for a shower.

Overview

CANDEO HOTELS Nagasaki Shinchichukagai is a 207-room hotel about a 3-minute walk from the Shinchi-Chukagai tram stop. The top floor has a view open-air bath, a communal bath and a sauna; the water is not onsen, but you can look out over the city. Children of elementary school age and under can stay with co-sleeping, up to the room's capacity, and co-sleeping is free for children from age 0 through those who have not yet started elementary school. There are no indoor or outdoor pools and no childcare service, and the hotel has no parking of its own.

Rooms

There are three room types, all non-smoking: the Queen Room (17 sq m, with a bed 1,600 mm wide), the Twin Room (21 sq m, with two beds 1,100 mm wide) and the King Room (21 sq m, with a bed 2,200 mm wide). The Twin and King rooms have plans for a third guest and beyond: from the third guest on, guests sleep on the koagari raised-platform living sofa using a dedicated futon mattress, quilt and pillow, for a maximum of 5 guests. Children of elementary school age and under can be booked with co-sleeping, up to the room's capacity. There is no co-sleeping charge for children from age 0 through those who have not yet started elementary school (bring your own towels, toothbrushes and nightwear), while elementary school children are charged 2,000 yen (2,200 yen including tax, with children's amenities). If a child of elementary school age or under uses a bed on their own, the adult rate applies and the child must be added to the adult count when booking.

Dining

Breakfast is a buffet served in the restaurant on the 11th floor from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., with last admission at 9:30 a.m. The price is 2,300 yen for adults (2,530 yen excluding tax), 1,500 yen for elementary school children (1,650 yen including tax) and 1,000 yen for children aged 3 and over who are not yet school age (1,100 yen including tax). Children under 3 eat free. Room service is not available.

Baths

The top floor has a view open-air bath, a communal bath and a sauna. There are 2 open-air baths and 2 communal baths, all open from 3 p.m. to 11 a.m., and none of them use onsen water. The sauna in the men's bath is a dry sauna, and the one in the women's bath is a mist sauna. There is no private-hire bath and no bath that a family can use on its own.

Family-friendly notes

Children are welcome to stay. There are no indoor or outdoor pools, no shuttle service and no childcare service. The hotel has no parking of its own, so guests use affiliated parking such as Dozamachi Parking, at 1,000 yen per night. The road in front of the hotel is closed to vehicles from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., so loading and unloading luggage and picking up or dropping off passengers are not possible during those hours. If you plan to arrive or leave with a stroller, you will need to avoid that time window.
