forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.4 out of 5 (3,071 reviews). Families with children praise the ocean-view rooms, which feel spacious once the fold-away bed is stowed, and the view from the standing bath (tachiyu) spa, which looks as though it merges with the sea. Guests also rate the dinner buffet and live kitchen highly for their wide variety, though some report disappointment that elementary school children cannot enter the standing-bath area, so note that the baths your family can use may be limited depending on your child's age.

Overview

Atami Korakuen Hotel is an onsen resort on the seafront in Atami, made up of two buildings: the Tower Building and AQUA SQUARE. The grand view bath Kaibo no Yu draws on a spring source on the property, and the communal baths are stocked with baby items such as baby baths and baby beds. There are 2 nursing rooms in the hotel, strollers are available to borrow, and baby food is provided free of charge, so families traveling with a baby are well looked after. The hotel has 189 rooms, all non-smoking.

Rooms

Guest rooms are split between two buildings, the Tower Building and AQUA SQUARE. Every room in the Tower Building looks out over the sea, and the 18-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms sleep up to 6 guests, which suits family stays well. In AQUA SQUARE, the Ocean View Room (40 sq m, for 1 to 4 guests) has sea views, while the Courtyard Twin Room (24 sq m, for 1 to 2 guests, with two beds 120 cm wide by 206 cm long) does not. Up to 2 co-sleeping children ages 0 to 3 may stay in addition to a room's stated capacity. On the upper floors, the Excellency Floor has 60 sq m Excellency Rooms, as well as Excellency Large Rooms of up to 120 sq m for 2 to 8 guests. All guest rooms are non-smoking.

Dining

Dinner is normally a buffet with more than 60 items, while the Japanese kaiseki course is served only to guests staying on the Excellency Floor. Breakfast is a buffet with both Western and Japanese dishes. Baby food is provided free of charge at the dining venues, with menus by age in months from the early stage (from around 5 months) through the finishing stage (from around 1 year). These menus use none of the 8 major allergens: egg, milk, wheat, buckwheat, peanuts, shrimp, crab and walnut. A portable bassinet is available to borrow in case your baby falls asleep, and baby chairs with belts, children's tableware and paper bibs are on hand as well. If anyone in your party has a food allergy, let the hotel know when booking or at least 4 days before your stay, and an alternative meal will be prepared. Kobaitei, the venue for the kaiseki course, has a small number of private rooms; because they are limited, they are arranged by request.

Baths and Onsen

The grand view bath Kaibo no Yu draws on a spring source on the property and is a calcium-sodium chloride spring. There are no particular restrictions on bathing babies, and the decision is left to parents; the water is around 42°C, so you can adjust the temperature using a baby bath. Both the men's and women's communal baths provide baby beds, diaper bins, deodorizer, baby wipes, baby baths, baby bath chairs and baby soap, though quantities are limited. The changing rooms also have baby beds, and the women's bath additionally has a baby playpen. Children ages 7 and over are asked to refrain from mixed bathing. The baths in the guest rooms are not onsen: the Tower Building has heated fresh water, and AQUA SQUARE has shower booths only, with the Ocean View Rooms in AQUA SQUARE fitted with a multifunction shower. The private-hire open-air bath Excellency Spa is 100% spring water flowing directly from the source. It is reserved for guests on the Tower Building's Excellency Floor, booked at check-in on the day of your stay, and can be used for 45 minutes at a time. The adjacent day-use onsen facility Ocean Spa Fuua gives staying guests one admission as a benefit, but for safety management children ages 0 to 3 cannot enter. Guests staying on the Excellency Floor can use the private-hire open-air bath, fed by the hotel's own spring source and flowing directly from the source, free of charge.
