Overview

Hotel Kanichi is about a 10-minute walk from Atami Station and about a 3-minute walk from Sun Beach, and it takes pride in its in-room dining and its onsen flowing directly from the source. Breakfast and dinner are both served in your room, so families with small children can eat without worrying about other guests. The 5 private-hire open-air baths are free and need no reservation, so you can use them as often as you like; the changing rooms have a baby bed and baby chairs, and the bathing areas have baby baths. With children's meals and a range of items available to borrow, this is a property well prepared for families.

Rooms

Room capacities are as follows: the ocean-side VIP suite sleeps up to 10, the one-room ocean-side special room up to 6, the two-room ocean-side special room up to 8, the ocean-side 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with an antechamber up to 8, the ocean-side Japanese-Western room up to 7, the ocean-side 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room up to 5, the town-side Japanese-style tatami room up to 6, and the rooms without a view up to 8. The ocean-side VIP suite is 80 sq m for up to 10 guests, with one Western-style twin room, two Japanese-style tatami rooms and a relaxation room, and only one group can book it at a time. The ocean-side two-room type is 38 sq m and is popular with families. The Japanese-Western rooms combine a 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with a Western-style room of about 6 tatami mats, and there is just one on each floor. So that children can move around the room freely, breakable items such as vases can be removed if you let the hotel know in advance.

Dining

Dinner and breakfast are both served as in-room dining, without leaving your room, which makes this an especially good fit for families with children. A kids' meal is available at 50% of the adult accommodation rate, and a dinner for elementary school children at 70% of the adult accommodation rate. However, a group of 7 or more people (including 6 adults and one or more elementary school children) will be seated in a banquet room, which is a private room, even on plans that specify in-room dining. Baby food is not provided, but there is a microwave in the hallway on each floor, so you can warm baby food you have brought with you, and small plates, spoons and forks are provided. Please note that the hotel does not accommodate food allergies.

Baths and Onsen

The hotel has one of the finest spring sources in Atami and offers 100% pure natural onsen flowing directly from the source. The 5 private-hire open-air baths are free and need no reservation, so you can use them freely, as many times as you like. The communal bath has 2 indoor baths that warm you through to the core. Baby baths are provided in both the communal bath and the private-hire open-air baths, so you can bathe with your baby while adjusting the water temperature with the shower. The changing rooms of the retro-style bathing areas have a baby bed, baby chairs, cold water and the hotel's original onsen soap. The changing rooms of the private-hire open-air baths also have baby chairs, and if the onsen water is too hot you can add water to cool it. Note that of the 5 private-hire open-air baths, 2 have a small step up of about two steps, and the other 3 are reached by climbing about 20 steps.

Family-friendly features

On the baby plan and three-generation plans, children under 2 stay free of charge, but on other plans a charge applies: 2,200 yen with no futon bedding and no meals, or 4,400 yen with futon bedding and no meals. A baby sofa, a diaper disposal pail and the microwaves in the hallway on each floor are lent out free of charge, and an air purifier and a humidifier can also be borrowed on request. The toilet in the room comes with a toilet-training seat for children. If your child stays on a children's rate that includes meals and futon bedding, you can also choose a bath towel, toothbrush and yukata. An anniversary cake and an okuizome first-meal celebration set with sea bream can both be ordered, and each requires a reservation. There are steps at the entrance to the building, at the entrances to the guest rooms and at the entrance to the communal bath, and a ramp is available at the front entrance.
