forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.31 out of 5 (1,838 reviews). In reviews from families with children, some guests say the children's chairs and children's spoons at the breakfast venue put them at ease. Others say that because each room is a separate building, they could relax without worrying about the people around them, even with lively children. As a caution, some guests noted that mosquitoes get in easily, so insect repellent spray comes in handy.

Overview

Nanki Shirahama Toretore Village is a property in Nanki Shirahama made up entirely of 141 standalone dome houses. Because every room is its own dome-shaped cottage, children's voices are unlikely to carry to the neighboring rooms. The bedless Japanese-style room (sleeps up to 6; the floor is carpeted rather than tatami) lets the family spend time on the floor, which suits parents with a crawling baby. Children aged 0 to 2 stay free of charge, and children aged 3 and over who have not yet started elementary school pay 60% of the adult rate. There are no cribs, no baby baths and no indoor playroom, but there is Village Park, a park for staying guests only.

Rooms

Every room is a standalone dome house, with 141 in total across three areas: the Marchen Zone, the Fantastic Zone and Village 8. All rooms are non-smoking, except for some of the pet-only units. The Marchen Zone Twin (sleeps up to 3) is 38 m² with 2 beds and 1 sofa bed, so with 3 guests one person sleeps on the sofa bed. The Marchen Zone Fours (sleeps up to 4) is 38 m² with 4 beds. The Japanese-style room in the Marchen Zone and the Fantastic Zone (sleeps up to 6) is 38 m² and takes 2 to 6 guests. It has no beds; you lay out the futons yourselves, so there is no risk of a fall, and a crawling baby can spend time on the floor. The floor of the Japanese-style room is carpeted rather than tatami. The Fantastic Zone Twin comes in three floor types (carpet, wood flooring and marble), each 38 m² with 2 beds and 1 sofa bed, for up to 3 guests. The Village 8 Two-Bedroom (sleeps up to 5) is 40 m² with 2 double beds and a sofa; with 5 guests, one person uses the sofa bed. Village 8 is an area themed on a "Cave Dungeon": each of its 8 units has a different fantasy mural that glows under black light, and photo-spot objects such as dragon eggs are placed around the area. In the Fantastic Zone and Village 8, children's slippers, a body sponge, additive-free body soap and a children's toothbrush are provided when a child aged 3 through elementary school age stays. Rooms cannot be booked beyond their capacity, and children aged 3 and over count toward it, so choose a room that fits the size of your family.

Dining

On plans with buffet dinner and breakfast, meals are served at the Toretore-tei dining hall, about a 5-minute walk from the rooms. Dinner runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (last entry 8:30 p.m.) with a 90-minute limit, and breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (last entry 9:30 a.m.) with a 60-minute limit. When it is busy, dinner is split into three seatings. On the "In-Room Dining: Two Kinds of Onsen Tickets x Seasonal Hors d'Oeuvres & Seafood Chirashi Plan" (March 31, 2026 to April 30, 2027), dinner and breakfast are delivered to your room. Delivery is roughly between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for dinner and between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for breakfast; after those times, meals are handed over at the front desk. On this plan, adults and elementary school children have the same seafood chirashi (sushi rice topped with seafood) for dinner, and younger children have a children's chirashi. For food allergies on this plan, note them in the remarks field when booking and they will be accommodated as far as possible; separate cooking utensils and same-day requests cannot be accommodated. Under the operator's food allergy policy (dated September 19, 2026), its restaurants do not, as a rule, offer allergy-friendly menus, and because many ingredients are handled in the same kitchen, complete removal is not possible. You may bring drinks and light snacks into your room, but cooking in the room, for example with a portable gas stove you bring yourself, is prohibited.

Baths and Onsen

The in-room bathrooms are not onsen, but every room has a bath, a toilet and a shower. For onsen bathing, guests use two separate bathing facilities inside the neighboring Toretore Park, Katata no Yu and Toretore no Yu, and depending on the plan, tickets for both are included. Katata no Yu is inside the Toretore-tei dining hall, about a 2-minute walk from the Village gate, and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (last entry 9 p.m.). Toretore no Yu is about a 13-minute walk from the gate and is also served by a scheduled shuttle; it is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (last entry 10:30 p.m.) and has an open-air bath, a sauna and ganbanyoku (a heated-stone sauna). Guests with tattoos cannot bathe at either facility. Bring the towels provided in your room to the onsen. It is not stated whether children in diapers may get into the baths, so please check with each facility.

Family-Friendly Features

Children aged 0 to 2 stay free of charge. Children aged 3 and over who have not yet started elementary school pay the young-child rate (60% of the adult rate), elementary school children pay the elementary school rate, and junior high school students and older pay the adult rate. Children aged 0 to 2 are booked without meals or bedding and co-sleep free of charge. The number of children who can co-sleep per bed is not stated. When 1 adult stays with 1 child, the child is moved up to the adult rate; the ages this applies to are not stated, and it may vary by plan. Cribs and baby baths are not available, and baby futons are not mentioned. The hotel's Village 8 page lists a wheelchair, a carrying wagon, a shower chair and odor-blocking diaper disposal bags as items available to borrow. There is no indoor playroom, but the grounds have Village Park, a park for staying guests only, with a slide and animal-themed play equipment. Because every room is a standalone dome cottage, a baby crying at bath time is unlikely to be heard in the neighboring rooms.

Access

The property is about 5 minutes by car from JR Shirahama Station and about 10 minutes by car from Nanki-Shirahama Airport. Free parking for staying guests has 150 spaces. Park in front of the front desk, and staff will take you and your luggage to your room by cart. The dome houses are spread across three areas, so cars cannot drive up to the rooms, and the cart runs only at set hours. Check-in is from 3 p.m., and if you will arrive after 6 p.m. you need to contact the property. Checkout is at 11 a.m.
