Nanki Shirahama Kachofugetsu is a 24-room ryokan on high ground in Shirahama, Wakayama. To protect guests' privacy, it has no communal bath. Instead, every room has its own natural onsen semi-open-air bath, available 24 hours a day, with tubs that vary in character, such as wooden baths and barrel baths, so your family can enjoy the onsen on your own. The panda-themed rooms can accommodate co-sleeping and extra beds, and stays with babies are welcome. Meals for children are also available, including kids' plates and a kids' kaiseki course.
Rooms
The 24 rooms are mainly 37 sq m standard rooms, along with an 80 sq m special room, three 50 sq m semi-special rooms, a barrier-free room and designer rooms. The Japanese-Western standard rooms have a tatami area where extra futon bedding can be laid out. The panda-themed Panda Rooms (rooms 105 and 106) are 37 sq m Western-style and Japanese-Western rooms for 2 to 4 guests, and co-sleeping can be combined with an extra bed. Some rooms have tatami flooring, and meals can also be served in the room; this costs extra and must be confirmed in advance. In the barrier-free room and the special room, you can also ask about in-room dining. Some rooms can be used as connecting rooms if reserved in advance.
Baths and Onsen
To protect guests' privacy, there is no communal bath. Instead, every room has a natural onsen semi-open-air bath, so your family can take a relaxed soak on your own at any hour of the day or night. The tubs vary from room to room, including wooden baths, barrel baths and ceramic baths. Only the special room has an indoor bath plus a fully open-air rock bath. The spring water is a bicarbonate spring, said to help with gastrointestinal complaints, joint pain and recovery from fatigue.
Dining
Dinner is a kaiseki course (a traditional multi-course Japanese meal) built around Wakayama ingredients, and breakfast is Hanakago no Sai with a small Japanese and Western buffet. Meals booked at the child rate are a kids' kaiseki course. Children aged 4 and over who have not yet started elementary school are normally booked without meals or futon bedding, while children aged 0 to 3 stay free of charge. If a child under school age would like a meal, a kids' plate can be prepared for an additional 3,300 yen, with advance application required. Allergy accommodation is limited to egg, shellfish, mollusks, crustaceans, dairy products, gourd-family produce, buckwheat, mushrooms, nuts and fruit. Wheat and soy cannot be accommodated.
Family-Friendly Features
You can stay with a baby. Guests of any age can book, as long as they do not disturb other guests. In-room dining can also be arranged on request, for an additional charge. The building is almost entirely step-free, and there is one barrier-free room. A plan offered only during the summer vacation period comes with extras for children, such as a sandbox set, water guns and a beach ball to borrow, plus a gift of handheld fireworks. These extras are only for guests booked on that plan.
Access
The ryokan is about 15 minutes by car from JR Shirahama Station and Nanki-Shirahama Airport, and also about 15 minutes by car from Adventure World. Free on-site parking is provided, with a space for every room. If you are traveling by train or plane, a shuttle to and from JR Shirahama Station and Nanki-Shirahama Airport is available by reservation.
