Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba is an onsen resort hotel at the foot of the Northern Alps, on grounds of about 30,000 tsubo (a tsubo is about 3.3 sq m). Its 74 rooms come in 7 types, including Superior Suites with two separate bedrooms and rooms whose bathrooms have a bathtub with a separate washing area, so there is plenty that works well for families. Alongside Kominka no Yu, the communal bath fed by the hotel's own spring source, there is a private-hire onsen that is free once per night, and families whose children are not yet out of diapers, and so cannot enter the onsen, can use the bath in their room instead. Cribs and bed guards are available to borrow, and children's dinners are prepared as well.
Rooms
The hotel has 74 rooms in 7 types. In the West Building, the Grand Twin Room is 36 sq m for 1 to 3 guests, with two beds measuring 110 cm wide by 200 cm long by 45 cm high; they can also be set up Hollywood style with no gap between them. The Grand Double Room is 36 sq m for 1 to 3 guests and has a king-size bed. In the East Building, the Superior Suite Room is 57 sq m and sleeps 2 to 6 guests, laid out with 4 beds plus 1 extra bed, with beds measuring 110 x 200 cm. The Superior Suite Concept Room has a separate bedroom, so parents and children or groups can sleep in different rooms. On Rakuten Travel, the Superior Suite Room, the Superior Suite Concept Room and the Junior Suite are listed under the "Fours" category, sleeping 2 to 6 guests. On the first floor of the West Building there is a Universal Room designed to be easy to use for guests in wheelchairs. The West Building, which holds the Grand Twin and Grand Double rooms, has no elevator, so moving around with a stroller means going up and down stairs. The entire property is non-smoking, and there are no Japanese-style tatami rooms.
Dining
Dinner is normally a French course in the main dining room. The Chinese restaurant Hakuba Hanten has been closed since April 2026 for renovation. In summer you can also choose an Italian grill course at the outdoor dining area in the courtyard. Children's dinners are available at any of the restaurants: 8,250 yen including tax for elementary school children and under (ages 6 to 12), and 4,950 yen including tax for children who have not yet started elementary school (ages 3 to 6). The restaurants have children's chairs and cutlery, provided when you ask for them. Breakfast is a buffet with about 60 Japanese and Western dishes, though depending on the number of guests staying it may be served as individual set trays. Allergies are accommodated as far as possible, but requests to separate specified ingredients or cooking utensils, or to remove ingredients completely, may not be able to be met, so please consult the hotel in advance. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals are not offered. Dinner is served only in the dedicated restaurants, and in-room dining is not available.
Baths and Onsen
The communal bath Kominka no Yu is a natural onsen from the hotel's own spring source, and the spring water is a sodium bicarbonate spring. The men's and women's sides each have a large indoor bath, a roofed hinoki-wood open-air bath and a rock open-air bath; the rock open-air bath is unavailable in winter because of snow. Hours are 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 a.m., so you can bathe until late at night. Staying guests can use the private-hire onsen free of charge once per night, and reservations are taken only on the day, first come, first served. The private-hire baths are the Japanese-style Bath, Thermae Romae and the detached Goemon Bath; the Japanese-style Bath and Thermae Romae have no steps anywhere from the entrance through the changing room, the post-bath lounge and the bathing area. Children who are not yet out of diapers or training pants cannot use the onsen, and mixed bathing for children is allowed up to age 6. The in-room bathroom of the Superior Suite Room has a full bathtub with a separate washing area, which suits bathing with a small child. There is no sauna.
Family-Friendly Features
Children under 6 co-sleep free of charge as a rule, with up to one child per bed. On the accommodation plans listed on Ikyu.com (a Japanese booking site), co-sleeping is allowed for up to 2 children; elementary school children pay 70% of the adult rate; and for infants and toddlers the category depends on whether meals and bedding are included, ranging from 70% of the adult rate to a fixed amount set by each plan to free of charge. The category with bedding but no meals is not accepted. A crib costs 1,500 yen per night including tax and a bed guard is free of charge; both are requested when you book. Bed guards are for children aged 18 months and over. Children's yukata are also available in sizes S to L. Both the men's and women's restrooms off the lobby have a private cubicle where you can change a diaper, but diapers are not sold in the hotel. Humidifiers and air purifiers are available to borrow, in limited numbers. There is no childcare service.

The View Lounge inside the hotel has children's play equipment and picture books alongside billiards and darts. The courtyard is laid with grass, so in summer children can play or stretch out on the lawn, and in winter they can go sledding or build a kamakura (a snow hut). The outdoor pool is open from mid-July to around the end of August, free for staying guests, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is 12 m long, 6 m wide and 100 cm deep, there is no children's pool, and whether swim diapers are allowed is not published, so please confirm with the hotel. Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort and Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field are 10 minutes away by car and Hakuba Happo-one Ski Resort 20 minutes by car. The hotel's rental shop carries skis, snowboards and wear in children's sizes too, and there are ski lockers inside the hotel. Public shuttle buses to each ski resort run in the winter season only, for a fee. Free shuttle service from JR Hakuba Station and the Happo Bus Terminal to the hotel is available with an advance reservation.
