Overview

Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba is an onsen resort hotel at the foot of the Northern Japan Alps, directly in front of the Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort. It has a communal bath fed by its own Okuhakuba Onsen source, which rises from 1,221 m underground, a dinner buffet with a kids' menu and baby food, and Japanese-Western and maisonette rooms with co-sleeping rules. In winter there is a kids park connected to the slopes, and in summer around 30 hands-on programs, making it an easy choice for a family trip with children.

Rooms

The basic room type is a Japanese-Western room combining two single beds with an 8-tatami Japanese-style area. The standard Japanese-Western room is 29.8 sq m with three sets of futon bedding and sleeps 1 to 5 guests. For families and larger groups, there is also a 55.61 sq m maisonette type with a Western-style room on the first floor and a Japanese-style tatami room on the second. It has two single beds, an extra bed and four sets of futon bedding, and sleeps up to 7 guests; the entrance is on the second floor, so stairs are involved and guests unsteady on their feet should take care. The upgraded Cortina Room is 29.8 sq m with two sets of futon bedding and comes with early check-in at 2 p.m. and late checkout at 11 a.m. No room includes a futon-laying service, and no barrier-free rooms are available.

Dining

Dinner is the Shunsai Shinshu Buffet, which draws on Shinshu regional cooking and comes with a soft-drink bar offering 15 kinds of drinks, plus a kids' menu and baby food. Breakfast is a Japanese-Western buffet served from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Baths and Onsen

The hotel's own Okuhakuba Onsen source rises from 1,221 m underground and is a sodium bicarbonate spring rich in hydrogen carbonate ions, known as a bath that is good for the skin. There are eight tubs in all, including a jacuzzi, a large bath, a lying-down bath, a rock bath with a view, a hinoki bath, a medicated bath and a kaburiyu (water poured over yourself before entering the bath), along with saunas: a löyly sauna and a mist sauna on the men's side and a rock-salt sauna on the women's side. One baby bed is set up in the changing room of the women's bath. Some plans let staying guests bathe free of charge before check-in and after checkout (towels are available to rent for a fee).

Family-Friendly Features

Co-sleeping is available for up to 5 children. Elementary school children, both lower and upper grades, pay 70% of the adult rate, and young children from age 3 to under elementary school age who use meals and bedding pay 50% of the adult rate. Young children under 3 who use neither meals nor bedding can be booked free of charge, but bookings for meals only or bedding only are not accepted. When booking, children age 3 and over but not yet in elementary school are booked under the young-children category with meals and futon bedding, and children under 3 under the young-children category without meals or futon bedding. The hotel also has facilities such as table tennis and a putting course, which adults and children alike can enjoy. In winter, the kids park connected to the slopes right in front of the hotel offers a snow-play area, tubing and sledding for the whole family. In summer there is a Summer Experience Program including new content, and during the school-holiday period from July 8 to August 30, around 30 nature programs run in partnership with Hakuba Lion Adventure and Otari Nature School can be used with Cortina Experience Points. On some plans, children age 3 and over receive a handheld fireworks set, while children under 3 do not receive this benefit.
