Ryotei Jyuuniya is a kaiseki ryokan with just 7 rooms, set at the foot of Shigisan. The main building, renovated in 2020, has a Japanese-modern design using Yoshino cedar and Yoshino cypress, while the Japanese-style tatami rooms in the new wing sleep 2 to 4 guests, with only Matsu taking up to 5, making them well suited to family stays. The ryokan accommodates co-sleeping for infants and young children, child rates by age, and the option to add a kids' kaiseki. The weakly alkaline simple onsen is gentle on the skin, so everyone from children to older guests can enjoy it. The new wing rooms have no shower, so guests bathe in the communal baths.
Rooms
The main building's rooms were renovated in early summer 2020 in a Japanese-modern style using Yoshino cedar and Yoshino cypress from Nara Prefecture. The Japanese-style beds in Hagi and Kikyo use Serta mattresses. Kikyo is 53.6 sq m and is a barrier-free room with ample space to move around in a wheelchair. Tsubaki is a 48.8 sq m Japanese-style tatami room for 2 to 5 guests. In the new wing, Take is a 12-tatami-mat room for 2 to 4 guests, with plenty of space even for a family of 4. Koun and Suisen are also 12-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami rooms in the new wing for 2 to 4 guests. Matsu is the largest room in the new wing at 15 tatami mats and can accommodate up to 5 guests. The new wing rooms have no shower facilities, so guests bathe in the communal baths.
Dining
Dinner can be enjoyed in a private room or in the dining area. If you would like a kids' kaiseki for a child of elementary school age or younger, an additional 70% of the adult rate is payable on site, and you need to let the ryokan know when you book. If you would like meals only for a preschool-age child, this is arranged for dinner only, by phone reservation in advance. Where shrimp, crab, egg, buckwheat, wheat, dairy products, peanuts, chicken, pork or beef is a main ingredient, it can be swapped for a different ingredient. Baths and Onsen
The onsen here is Nara Shigi no Yu Onsen, a weakly alkaline simple onsen. The water feels soft and is gentle on the skin, so everyone from children to older guests can enjoy it. There are 2 communal baths, available from 4 p.m. until 9 a.m. the following morning. There is no private-hire bath, so families bathe in the communal baths as well.

Access
The ryokan is about 10 minutes by car from JR Oji Station and about 20 minutes from the Kashiba IC on the Nishi-Meihan Expressway. From the north exit of Oji Station, take a Nara Kotsu bus, get off at the Shigisanmon bus stop, and walk about 2 minutes. Nearby is Shigisan Nodokamura, an agricultural park where families can enjoy fruit picking and an adventure playground.
