Yunoyado Kurumiya Oshima is an onsen ryokan on Izu Oshima, 5 to 15 minutes by car from Motomachi Port, Okada Port and Oshima Airport alike. Its pride is onsen water that is 100% from the source and flows straight through without being heated or diluted, at a generous 41 liters per minute. The guest rooms are purely Japanese-style tatami rooms of 6 to 10 tatami mats, assigned according to the number of guests. Accommodation plans include child rates, and some plans welcome families. Breakfast is a Japanese-style meal with grilled fish and dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet), and rice refills are free.

The guest rooms are purely Japanese-style tatami rooms surrounded by the natural setting of Izu Oshima, ranging from 6 to 10 tatami mats and assigned according to the number of guests. The rooms have no bath or toilet. Wi-Fi is available in every room, and there are 20 rooms in total. On the plans limited to 3 or 4 guests, parties of 3 or more are placed in a 10-tatami Japanese-style room.
Dining
Breakfast is a Japanese-style meal that is gentle on the body first thing in the morning, with grilled fish, dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet), and small dishes and pickles made with local ingredients. Rice refills are free. For consecutive nights the menu changes from day to day, with dishes such as dried horse mackerel or grilled salmon. Breakfast is served in the dining area. There is a standard plan that serves a Japanese set meal, and room-only plans without meals can also be chosen.
Baths and Onsen
The pride of the ryokan is natural onsen water blessed by Mount Mihara, flowing straight from the source with no heating and no water added. The spring water is 44.1°C, and the flow is a generous 41 liters per minute. It is a sodium chloride spring, said to be beneficial for sensitivity to cold, recovery from fatigue, chronic dermatitis and a weak constitution in children. Bathing hours at the communal bath are from 5 p.m. to around 9 p.m. in the evening and from 5 a.m. to around 8 a.m. in the morning. In the unlikely event that the onsen pump develops a fault, the supply of onsen water may stop, and in that case the ryokan is considering filling a temporary tub with hot water instead. A bathing tax of 150 yen per adult applies separately.
Family-Friendly Features
The Japanese-style tatami rooms of 6 to 10 tatami mats welcome families as well as solo travelers and couples. Accommodation plans include child rates, and the plans limited to 3 or 4 guests are also recommended for families and groups of friends. Nearby, the Izu Oshima Tsubaki Hana Garden and Risu Mura (Squirrel Village) make good sightseeing stops for the whole family.

From the Takeshiba Passenger Ship Terminal in Tokyo, Izu Oshima is 1 hour 45 minutes away by high-speed jet ferry, and it is 45 minutes from Atami Port. From Chofu Airfield in Tokyo, it is 25 minutes to Oshima Airport by small aircraft. Once you are on the island, the ryokan is 5 minutes by car from Motomachi Port, 15 minutes by car from Okada Port and 5 minutes by car from Oshima Airport. There is parking for 20 cars, free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment on site is by cash only; credit cards are not accepted.
