Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Awara
forumWhat families say
Rakuten Travel rating 3.82 out of 5 (1,301 reviews). One family reports that their child happily tucked into the sweet shrimp and the shrimp-broth ramen at the dinner buffet, and guests praise the on-site facilities, including table tennis, the game arcade and the manga corner, as things the whole family can enjoy. Some guests, however, felt there could have been a little more for children, such as furikake rice seasoning and fruit like bananas.

Overview
Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Awara is an onsen ryokan in Awara Onsen, in the city of Awara, Fukui, with two types of garden open-air bath and buffet dining. The restaurant has children's tableware and chairs, and baby food is available, while the communal bath is stocked with bathing items for young children. For children under 3, a futon can be added for an additional charge, making an onsen trip easy for the whole family. Inside, there is a playroom, table tennis and a game arcade, and nearby attractions such as Shibamasa World are about 10 minutes away by car.
Rooms
The main building has Japanese-style tatami rooms of 8 mats (1-3 guests), 10 mats (1-5 guests), 12 mats (1-6 guests), 17.5 mats (1-10 guests) and 25 mats (1-12 guests). None of them have a bath in the room, but all have a toilet. The annex has standard twin rooms with a bath and toilet (19 sq m, 1-2 guests), triple rooms (18 sq m, 1-3 guests) and Japanese-Western rooms (22 sq m, 1-9 guests). The 12.5-mat Japanese-style tatami room in the annex (with a bath and toilet, 1-7 guests) is prepared with the futons already laid out. There are 95 rooms in total.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both served buffet-style in the restaurant, with dinner from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Children's tableware and chairs are available in the restaurant, and baby food can be provided if you ask a staff member. Some extra-order dishes, such as genuine snow crab, are served only to guests of elementary school age and older.
Baths and Onsen
The spring water is an alkaline, hypotonic cold mineral spring that qualifies as an onsen under the Hot Spring Act on the basis of its metasilicic acid content. Because it is not classified as a therapeutic spring, it has no designated spring-quality name. There are two types of open-air bath, a rock bath and a duckboard (sunoko) bath, and the communal bath and open-air baths can be used from 3 p.m. to midnight and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Bathing items for young children are provided in the communal bath, so parents can bathe with peace of mind alongside a small child, and children's yukata and slippers are available as well. Children aged 7 and over, or 120 cm and taller, use the bath matching their own gender.
Family-Friendly Features
Children's tableware and chairs and baby food in the restaurant, along with children's bathing items, yukata and slippers at the communal bath, make the stay comfortable even with a small child. For children under 3, a futon can be added for an additional 2,200 yen; please let the hotel know in advance.
