Awara Onsen Grandia Housen is a large ryokan with 111 rooms in Awara Onsen. Rooms are mainly Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms: the standard rooms in Kosuiden sleep up to 6, and the two-room type combining a 10-tatami room with a 12.5-tatami room sleeps up to 10, making it well suited to families and groups. Two kinds of kids' meals are prepared, one for elementary school children and one for children ages 3 to 5, and 33 rooms, including those in Kotobukitei and Yutorogitei, have their own onsen open-air bath. There is parking for about 300 cars, and a free shuttle bus is available with advance reservation.
Rooms
The ryokan has 111 rooms in total (39 Japanese-Western rooms, 57 Japanese-style tatami rooms and 4 Western-style rooms), and each building has its own character: Kotobukitei, Yutorogitei, Sakura-tei, Kokomichitei and Kosuiden. The standard rooms in Kosuiden are 15 or 16 tatami mats and sleep up to 6. The two-room type combining a 10-tatami room with a 12.5-tatami room sleeps up to 10 and is used by families and small groups. All 11 rooms in Sakura-tei Nagomi have beds and are over 60 sq m each, giving families and groups plenty of space to relax. There is also one dinosaur-design Dinosaur Room and two four-bed rooms. A Family room type of 80 sq m with 4 beds is available as well, for 2 to 6 guests. 33 rooms, including those in the annex Kotobukitei and the detached building Yutorogitei, have an onsen open-air bath in the room, so the family can enjoy the hot spring on their own whenever they like.
Dining
Breakfast is served buffet-style at the restaurant Kinokura. For dinner, alongside the restaurant buffet, there are plans that let you choose the private dining rooms at Yuzen or in-room dining. For children's meals, elementary school children receive a kids' meal with sashimi, while children under school age receive the kids' meal only. The additional-order menu includes Kids' Meal A for elementary school children (70% of the adult rate, 6,600 yen) and Kids' Meal B for children ages 3 to 5 (50% of the adult rate, 4,400 yen). Baths and Onsen
The ryokan has 3 of its own spring sources, and the spring water is an alkaline simple onsen. The communal bath Tenjo no SPA comprises Tsuki no Yu and Hoshi no Yu, each with an open-air bath and a sauna. There is also a hinoki communal bath reserved for guests staying in Kotobukitei, Yutorogitei and Kokomichitei. 33 rooms, including those in these buildings, have an onsen open-air bath, so families can bathe together without worrying about other guests.
Family-Friendly Features
The number of children who can co-sleep, and whether meals and bedding are provided for infants and toddlers, differ from plan to plan. One plan allows up to 5 children co-sleeping but cannot accept infants and toddlers who have neither meals nor bedding, while another allows only 1 child co-sleeping, requires at least 2 adults per room and, for Western-style rooms, cannot accept elementary school children, children who have not yet started elementary school, co-sleeping children or guests beyond the room capacity. Several plans set the rate for elementary school children at 70% of the adult rate, and for infants and toddlers with both meals and bedding at 50%. Depending on the plan, meals or bedding can be added for infants and toddlers, with bedding and no meals at 5,500 yen and meals with no bedding at 4,400 yen. Inside, there is a dinosaur-themed photo spot, and a water-gun shooting game is held during the summer holidays. A ramp is installed in front of the entrance to the restaurant Kinokura, and there is a unisex barrier-free toilet. The main entrance has a gentle wheelchair approach, which also makes it easy to come and go with a stroller.

It is about 10 minutes by car from JR Awara-Onsen Station, and staying guests can use a free shuttle bus, which requires advance reservation. There is parking for about 300 cars, free for staying guests.
