Overview
Beppu Ryokan Yumoto Miyoshi is a 7-room ryokan standing on high ground in Kannawa Onsen in Beppu, Oita. It has 6 private-hire baths fed with 100% natural onsen flowing straight from the spring source on the grounds; they are free and need no reservation, so you can use them as often as you like during your stay. The spring water is a weak sulfur spring and a simple spring, mellow enough to drink. Dinner and breakfast are both served in private dining rooms, so you can eat without worrying about other guests. Guest rooms are mainly on the second floor, reached by stairs.
Rooms
There are 7 guest rooms in all: 4 Japanese-Western rooms and 3 Japanese-style tatami rooms. The Japanese-Western rooms are about 40 square meters, made up of a 6-tatami Japanese area and a Western-style area, and sleep up to 5 guests. The Japanese-style tatami rooms are about 46 square meters, made up of a 10-tatami room and a broad window-side space, and sleep up to 4 guests. The rooms look out over Beppu Bay for an ocean view, and from the Japanese-style tatami rooms you can see the steam rising over the town. Guest rooms are mainly on the second floor, up a flight of stairs, so please let the ryokan know in advance if that would be difficult for you. Check-in is from 3 p.m., with a final check-in at 5:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. for room-only stays), and checkout is at 10 a.m.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both served in private dining rooms, so you can eat without worrying about other guests. The standard dinner course is a Japanese-Western kaiseki of about 10 dishes, including seasonal small plates, sashimi, simmered dishes, grilled fish, a meat dish and a hot pot. The steak course adds a steak of Bungo beef, Oita's brand-name wagyu, to the standard course. The jigoku-gama steaming course steams seafood such as turban shells, shrimp and sea bream together with seasonal vegetables in 98°C onsen steam. Breakfast is a comforting, simple Japanese set meal. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m., and breakfast is served from 8 a.m. Allergies cannot be accommodated, so please be aware of this in advance.
Baths and Onsen
There are 6 private-hire baths in all, and all of them are free to use. Three of them are private-hire open-air baths, each with its own character, and they are roomy enough for 3 or 4 people to soak at their leisure. They are not on a reservation system, so you can use them as often as you like during your stay whenever one is open. Bathing hours are from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The onsen flows straight from the spring source on the grounds and contains 195 mg of metasilicic acid, making it a bath said to be good for the skin. The spring water is a weak sulfur spring and a simple spring, and this is the only natural onsen in Kannawa Onsen whose water can be drunk.
Family-Friendly Features

It is about 5 minutes from the Beppu IC on the Oita Expressway, heading toward Kannawa. From JR Beppu Station it is about 35 minutes on a bus bound for Kannawa Onsen, or about 15 minutes by taxi. From Hakata Bus Terminal and Nishitetsu Tenjin Highway Bus Terminal, take the Toyonoku-go highway bus, get off at the Kannawa-guchi bus stop and walk about 7 minutes. No shuttle service is offered. There is parking for 7 cars, free of charge and with no reservation needed.
