forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 3.99 out of 5 (2,991 reviews). Guests who stayed in the Welcome Baby rooms say the baby chairs and beds, along with the baby tableware and spoons, were a big help. Many also mention that their children loved the spacious accommodation with its many rooms, and that free admission to Nasu Highland Park is a real draw. On the other hand, some reviews point out a musty smell and some cleaning issues, and some guests found getting to and from the dining venue hard work.

Overview

Nasu Highland Park Official Hotel TOWA Pure Cottages is a place to stay in the town of Nasu, Tochigi, offering detached rental villas, cottages and glamping. Co-sleeping is free for children aged 0 to 2, and for children from age 3 through elementary school, accommodation is free up to the number of adults. Cribs and bed guards are available, and there are rooms with their own playroom as well as an aerial adventure course. If you stay in a rental villa, you will generally need a car to get around.

Rooms

There are more than 100 types of detached rental villas, and you can also choose cottages or glamping. THE ONSEN_COTTAGE and the Standard Cottage are both Fours (4-person) rooms of 82 sq m, each with 4 beds plus 2 extra beds. The California Villa series has Japanese-Western rooms in a 2LDK layout (two bedrooms plus a living, dining and kitchen area), with 4 beds and 2 sets of futon bedding. The glamping option (AURA DOME5.0) is a 19 sq m triple room that sleeps up to 3 guests in 3 beds. It has no bath or toilet, so guests use the shared toilets and the communal bath in the front desk building (bathing there is free). The Resort House (Oshimizudai A3) is a Japanese-style tatami room type. With the whole-house rental villas, you will generally need a car to get around, and depending on the room, the front desk is about 5 to 15 minutes away.

Dining

Some plans let you choose dinner either at the restaurant or as in-room dining. In-room dining is an ingredient set for barbecue, shabu-shabu (thin slices of meat swished in hot broth) or tantan hot pot (a spicy sesame hot pot), starting from 2 servings. In-room barbecue is available only in the rental villas, and in-room dining is not available for Glamping B or THE TRAIL CABIN series. On plans that include dinner and breakfast, children from age 3 through elementary school eat free at the all-you-can-eat barbecue and the all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu; in-room dining and the ingredient sets are not covered. Food allergies can be discussed by phone, and the kitchen will adjust dishes as far as possible, but if it cannot guarantee that allergens are removed, the hotel may decline to serve meals.

Baths and Onsen

The front desk building has a communal bath (indoor) and an open-air bath. Both are described as natural onsen (Nasu Highland Onsen) flowing straight from the source, but other descriptions say only the open-air bath is onsen, so please confirm with the hotel. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Staying guests also pay to use the communal bath: 650 yen for adults and 400 yen for children. It is free for guests staying in rooms with an onsen bath or in the AURA DOME5.0 glamping. In winter the communal bath closes for a maintenance period; in 2026 this ran from January 13 to February 20, so if you plan a winter stay, please check the dates. Several dozen rooms have their own onsen bath. Whether children in diapers may use the baths is not stated, so please confirm with the hotel.

Family-Friendly Features

Cribs are available to rent for 2,200 yen per night including tax. Numbers are limited, so advance reservation is required. Bed guards are available on request at the front desk. Children aged 0 to 2 co-sleep, so no bedding or futon is provided for them, and no baby futon rental is stated either. Co-sleeping is free for ages 0 to 2. Children aged 3 and over count toward the room's capacity. Accommodation is free for children from age 3 through elementary school, up to the number of adults; for each child aged 3 or over beyond the number of adults, the equivalent of 70% of the adult rate is paid on site on plans with meals. The property is not fully barrier-free and has steps and stairs, so take care when getting around with a stroller. As a rule, guests are asked not to bring their own inflatable kiddie pools. Late checkout until noon is available for 6,600 yen per room if you book it by phone by the day before.

Play Areas and Pools

Staying guests get free admission to Nasu Highland Park and Rindoko Family Farm, though ride tickets and unlimited-ride passes cost extra. On the grounds, a 5-minute walk from the front desk, there is an aerial adventure course: NOZARU is for those 130 cm and taller and KOZARU for those 110 cm and taller, with a discount for staying guests only. Children under 110 cm can use Kitsune Nobori, which is open to children from age 3. Some rental villas come with a playroom. The GRAN MAISON "Kids" series has a playroom with a big slide, and the "KIDS" ORDER GRAN NASU series has a tatami-floored playroom with cushioned play equipment and educational toys. Rooms in the California Villa series have their own private pool (40 to 120 cm deep), and THE PIVOT Terrace & Pool has a private pool on its terrace (available June to September, 110 cm deep). The pool season for the California Villa series is not listed in our information, so please confirm with the hotel. Mori no Retreat Villa and Kids Sokai Naie NASU have an inflatable kiddie pool set up from June 1 to September 30. Whether the pools can be used in swim diapers is not stated. Mount Jeans Nasu Ski Resort is about 20 minutes away by car, with no shuttle service.

Access

A free shuttle bus runs from Nasushiobara Station, departing the station at 11 a.m., 2:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. (advance reservation required). If your room is not within walking distance of the front desk, you will need a car to get between the front desk and your room, so these rooms cannot be booked if you are traveling by shuttle bus. By car, it is about 20 minutes from Nasu IC. From December to March there is snow and ice, so winter tires or tire chains are required.
