Richmond Hotel Kagoshima Kinseicho
forumWhat families say
Rakuten Travel rating 4.38 out of 5 (5,620 reviews). The hotel is popular with families: guests say their children were delighted with breakfast, and a family of six who stayed three nights found the rooms spacious enough. Many also point to the convenient location within walking distance of Tenmonkan. On the other hand, the multi-level parking garage has few spaces, and some guests could not park because it filled up while they were out, so parking calls for some care.

Overview
Richmond Hotel Kagoshima Kinseicho is a city hotel standing right in front of the Asahi-dori streetcar stop, about 15 minutes by streetcar from Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Of its 207 rooms, the Japanese-Western Tatami Twin has a separate bathroom and toilet and sleeps up to 4 adults plus up to 4 children of elementary school age and under. One child of elementary school age and under may co-sleep free of charge per bed, and cribs and bed guards are available to borrow free of charge. Breakfast offers a choice of six menus, and children who have not yet started elementary school eat free when they share an adult's breakfast.
Rooms
The hotel has 207 rooms in total. Among them, the Tatami Twin (36 sq m, Japanese-Western style) is the only room type at this hotel where the bathroom and toilet are each separate. It has two beds 110 cm wide, with futons added for 3 or 4 guests, and sleeps up to 4 adults plus up to 4 children of elementary school age and under, for a maximum of 8 guests. Because of the way the room is built, however, the beds cannot be pushed completely against the wall. The Hollywood Twin (29 sq m, with two beds 110 cm wide plus an extra bed 97 cm wide) sleeps up to 6, and the Comfort Twin (31 sq m, with the same bed configuration) sleeps up to 8; in both, the beds can be placed together on one side. In the Single and Standard Double, the beds are fixed against the wall, so families with a co-sleeping child can rest with peace of mind. In the Compact Twin the beds are set apart, but if you let the hotel know in advance, both can be moved against the wall. In the Deluxe Double and the Superior Single and Double, the beds cannot be moved against the wall because of the way the rooms are built. In every room, one child of elementary school age and under may co-sleep free of charge per bed.
Dining
Breakfast is served at Ineya, the first-floor restaurant, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (last order 9:30 a.m.), with a choice of six menus including the Ineya Japanese breakfast set and keihan, a Kagoshima specialty of chicken and rice. It costs 2,200 yen for adults, and children pay 1,100 yen for a kids' plate. Children who have not yet started elementary school are not charged when they share the breakfast an adult has ordered. Note that breakfast for co-sleeping children is not included in the rate.

The hotel stands right in front of the Asahi-dori streetcar stop and is about 15 minutes by streetcar from Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Within walking distance are Io World Kagoshima Aquarium, home to a large whale shark (about a 15-minute walk; admission 1,500 yen for adults, 750 yen for children and 350 yen for preschool-age children), and the Tenmonkan district, both handy for family sightseeing. The multi-level parking garage on the property has 32 spaces, 10 of which take high-roof vehicles, at 1,200 yen per night, allocated first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.
