Overview
Alpico Plaza Hotel is a 160-room hotel about a 2-minute walk from the Oshiro-guchi (castle-side) exit of Matsumoto Station, standing right next to the Matsumoto Bus Terminal. Rooms range from 14 sq m singles to 38.2 sq m Deluxe Twins, and there are triples as well as Fours (4-person) rooms made up with extra beds, so you can choose to match your group size. Co-sleeping is available only for children who have not yet started elementary school; children of elementary school age and older are charged the adult rate (on plans marked as allowing co-sleeping through elementary school age, elementary school children and younger may also co-sleep). Co-sleeping is free for up to one child per bed, meaning one child in a double room and up to two in a twin room (one child in a Comfort Double and up to two in a Standard Twin). A crib and a bed guard can be borrowed with an advance phone reservation, and the breakfast buffet is free for children under school age (below elementary school age).
Rooms
All 160 rooms (57 singles, 28 doubles and 75 twins) come with an air purifier with a humidifying function and an LCD television. The non-smoking Single is 14 sq m with one double bed (140 x 200) for 1 to 2 guests; the Standard Double is 15.5 sq m with one queen bed (160 x 200) for 1 to 3 guests; and the Comfort Double is 19.8 sq m, also with a roomy queen bed (160 x 200), for 1 to 3 guests. The Standard Twin is 19 sq m with two wide single beds (110 x 200) and sleeps 1 to 4 guests. The Triple is 19 sq m and is made up of two beds plus one extra bed. Among the 38.2 sq m Deluxe Twins there is a non-smoking Deluxe Twin with two beds plus one extra bed, and a non-smoking Deluxe Twin set up as a Fours room with two extra beds, so you can add beds and keep the family together in one room. The Room Type Assigned by the Hotel option is for single occupancy and does not allow co-sleeping, so it cannot be chosen when traveling with children. Rental items include a bathroom set for guests with disabilities, and a wheelchair for use inside the hotel is also available to borrow.
Dining
Breakfast is served at the restaurant Nagomiza, a Japanese and Western buffet of about 40 dishes making generous use of local ingredients. It runs from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; breakfast is free for children under school age (below elementary school age), and 950 yen including tax for elementary school children. The restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (last order). Dinner is served only for private bookings, so no evening meal is offered to staying guests and there is no in-room dining. You will need to head out for dinner, but the first floor of the hotel is home to Matsumoto Tsunagu Yokocho, one of the largest food-and-drink alleys in the prefecture. Show your room key between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and you can enjoy a complimentary welcome drink at the first-floor restaurant.
Baths
There is no communal bath, private-hire bath or sauna in the hotel, so bathing is in your room's en-suite bathroom, which has a heated toilet seat with a washing function. If you would like an onsen, staying guests can use the communal bath at the group hotel Utsukushigahara Onsen Shoho free of charge. Shoho is a separate property some distance from this hotel, so you will need to take the free shuttle bus or travel by private car, public bus or taxi. The free shuttle bus carries up to 10 people per trip and runs twice a day: outbound departures from the hotel at 6:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m., and return departures from Shoho at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. If you make your own way there, bathing is available from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the day after your stay. Bathing tickets are handed out at the front desk on a first-come, first-served basis from 3 p.m. on the day of your stay, and cannot be reserved in advance by phone or otherwise. Bath towels can be borrowed free of charge at the Shoho front desk. There are days when Shoho is unavailable due to maintenance or private bookings, and during consecutive holidays and public holidays it may also be unavailable depending on Shoho's reservations.

A crib is available to borrow for 2,200 yen per night including tax, only in Comfort Double and Deluxe Twin rooms, for children under 1 year old; numbers are limited, so an advance phone reservation is required. A bed guard is available to borrow free of charge for one side of the bed only, and this too should be requested by phone in advance. On plans that come with a diaper benefit, children under 3 receive free diapers (5 per request, in sizes S, M and L), one set of baby wipes for the stay, and checkout at 11 a.m. instead of the usual 10 a.m. There is no babysitting service.

It is a 2-minute walk to the Oshiro-guchi (castle-side) exit of JR Matsumoto Station, a 1-minute walk to the Matsumoto Bus Terminal, and a 15-minute walk to Matsumoto Castle. There are two affiliated parking lots at 1,200 yen per night for staying guests; no reservation is needed, and you can enter and exit as often as you like from 3 p.m. on your check-in day until 12 p.m. on your checkout day. There is a barrier-free toilet, along with a women-only coin laundry with a lock. English-language frequently asked questions are also provided.
