The baths have an open-air bath looking out over Lake Biwa through the trees, along with a waterfall bath (utaseyu), a jet bath, a jacuzzi, a wooden tub bath and a sauna. The source is a pH 9.0 alkaline simple onsen known as bihada no yu, or skin-beautifying waters.

Dining (kids' kaiseki and allergy accommodation)

Indoor

Dinner is served in the dining hall or at the ryotei Soten. In-room dining is not offered. A kids' kaiseki course and a kids' meal plate are available, and Muslim-friendly menu options are offered.

Overview

Satoyu Mukashibanashi Yuzanso is a hot-spring ryokan in Ogoto Onsen, Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. Guests soak in Ogoto Onsen, a pH 9.0 alkaline simple onsen, in the men's bath Benkei no Hikizurigane and the women's bath Tennyo no Mai, with an adjoining open-air bath, a waterfall bath (utaseyu), a jet bath, a jacuzzi, a wooden tub bath and a sauna. The ryokan is set up for families and for a wide range of guests, with the wood-filled playroom Chiisana Mori for children from age 0 (7 a.m. to 9 p.m.), a summer-only garden pool, and Muslim-friendly menu options.

Satoyu Mukashibanashi Yuzanso is a hot-spring ryokan in Ogoto Onsen, Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. A free shuttle runs from Ogoto Onsen Station on the Kosei Line (8 a.m. to 9 p.m., please call ahead), and the ryokan is about 20 minutes from Kyoto-Higashi IC via the Nishi-Otsu Bypass.

Onsen

The communal bath, Ogoto Onsen, is divided into the men's bath Benkei no Hikizurigane and the women's bath Tennyo no Mai. Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. (entry until 8:45 a.m.) and 3 p.m. to midnight (entry until 11:45 p.m.). The bathing areas have an open-air bath looking out over Lake Biwa through the trees, along with a waterfall bath (utaseyu), a jet bath, a jacuzzi, a wooden tub bath and a sauna. The water is an alkaline simple onsen (pH 9.0, a hypotonic alkaline hot spring, about 36°C), colorless and clear.

Pool

The Garden Pool is open in summer only. It is mainly for children, and float rings are available to rent for a fee. It may close depending on the weather.

Playroom

Chiisana Mori is a playroom where children can play from age 0 with peace of mind, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is a space filled with the warmth of wood.

Other Facilities

The cafe Yusuraume (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Dining & Bar Yusuraume (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.), Satoyoi Terrace, a terrace with front-row seats over the water (8 a.m. to 11 p.m.), the shop Hanaore Toge (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.), and Omi Mukashibanashi Library, a reading corner (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Massages are by advance reservation only, and there is a kitchen-garden harvesting experience as well as Muslim-friendly menu options.

Dining

In-room dining is not offered; meals are served in the dining hall or at the ryotei. A kids' kaiseki course (a multi-course Japanese meal) and a kids' meal plate are available. For allergies, other ingredients can be substituted if you consult the ryokan in advance.

Please Note

There are 7 to 8 steps between the changing room and the bathing area of the communal bath. Guests with tattoos cannot bathe; as an exception, overseas guests may bathe if they purchase tattoo stickers and can cover them. Some guest rooms have their own open-air bath, and all rooms are non-smoking. Late checkout is available so you can take your time in the room before departure.
