Guest rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms in the Main Building, the East Building and Annex No. 1, and the standard room is 10 tatami mats, sleeping 2 to 5 guests. Some East Building rooms have onsen water running into the guest-room tub, which makes it easier to use the hot spring water with young children. Of the mixed-gender open-air baths, Hannya-no-Yu is shallower, and you enter it wearing a yuamigi bathing garment. Rooms
Guest rooms are divided among the Main Building, the East Building and Annex No. 1, and the standard room is a 10-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami room sleeping 2 to 5 guests. The Main Building is a three-story wooden structure of hiba cypress construction dating from Showa 30 (the 30th year of the Showa era), the East Building is a five-story reinforced-concrete building, and Annex No. 1 is a two-story wooden building. On most plans the room comes with no bath but with a washlet toilet, and you cannot specify the Main Building or the East Building. The 12-tatami rooms in the East Building (mountain side and river side) have a bath fed with onsen water and a washlet toilet, so you can use the hot spring water in your own tub, and the ryokan describes them as well suited to families with young children. Also in the East Building, the 8-tatami river-side rooms have a shower booth supplied with onsen water and a toilet, while the 7-tatami rooms have a shower and a toilet but no tub. Every room currently on sale through Osenkaku's own booking site and Rakuten Travel is a Japanese-style tatami room, each set for 2 to 5 guests per room. No Western-style rooms are offered.
Dining
Dinner differs in both venue and content depending on the type of room you stay in. Guests in the Main Building and its corner rooms dine at Chikutei, a dining area partitioned with bamboo into private-style spaces, where yamazato kaiseki cuisine (a multi-course menu of mountain-village dishes) is served. Guests in the East Building rooms, in the 6-tatami rooms of the Main Building, and on plans where the room cannot be specified are served yamazato kaiseki cuisine in the restaurant. There are no in-room dining plans. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal in the restaurant. On some plans it may be a buffet instead, and the content cannot be chosen. The dining venue cannot be chosen either. Children in the upper grades of elementary school are served the same dishes as adults, while children in the lower grades are served children's dishes, with dinner provided as a kids' meal. Children under school age are also served children's dishes. If a child in the lower grades would like the same dishes as adults, they need to be booked as an upper-grade child. For food allergies, if you let the ryokan know at least 3 days before your stay, the menu can be partly changed to remove the ingredients you declare, within the 9 specified allergenic ingredients and the 19 ingredients recommended for labeling. Gluten-free and low-salt meals cannot be accommodated, and because everything is cooked in the same kitchen, trace contamination cannot be prevented.
Baths and Onsen
There are 4 open-air baths flowing straight from the source and 2 communal baths. Three of the open-air baths are mixed-gender: the largest, Kodakara-no-Yu, is 200 tatami mats in size (tatami mats are a traditional Japanese measure of floor area), Maka-no-Yu is 120 tatami mats, and Hannya-no-Yu is 50 tatami mats and shallower, which makes it easy for children to get in. In the mixed-gender open-air baths, both men and women bathe wearing a yuamigi bathing garment, and swimsuits cannot be worn. The women-only open-air bath, Maya-no-Yu, is 100 tatami mats, and its changing room is finished entirely in hinoki cypress, with a toilet and underfloor heating. None of the open-air baths have washing areas or showers. Inside the buildings there are 2 communal baths, separate for men and women (Tonoyu and Himeyu), open around the clock. The water is a simple onsen (a weakly alkaline simple spring). There is no private-hire bath and no sauna. Whether children who are not yet out of diapers may get into the baths is not stated, so please confirm in advance.

Co-sleeping is accepted for up to 2 children, or up to 4 children, depending on the plan. Children's rates run as follows: 70% of the adult rate for elementary school children in the upper grades and 50% for those in the lower grades, while for infants and toddlers it is 5,500 yen or 50% of the adult rate with meals and bedding, 2,200 yen with bedding but no meals, 3,300 yen with meals but no bedding, and free of charge with neither meals nor bedding. Ages 0 to 3 are free of charge, but children aged 4 and over who are under school age must be booked under one of the young-child settings other than co-sleeping with no meals and no bedding. The 150 yen bathing tax applies only to adults, which includes junior high school students. There are no indoor or outdoor pools and no childcare service.
Access
It is 35 minutes by bus bound for Takaragawa Onsen from Minakami Station on the JR Joetsu Line, getting off at the last stop, Takaragawa Onsen, with the ryokan right there. Free shuttle cars run from Jomo-Kogen Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen and from Minakami Station on the JR Joetsu Line, and a reservation is required to use them. Parking for 100 cars is free of charge and needs no reservation. Check-in is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and checkout is at 10 a.m.; if you will be arriving after 5 p.m., you need to get in touch. The Main Building is wooden and has no elevator, so the 3rd floor and the 1st floor are reached by stairs, which means lifting strollers and luggage. In winter, Hodaigi Ski Resort is 10 minutes away by car (shuttle available) and Okutone Snow Park Ski Resort is 25 minutes by car (no shuttle).
