Guests praise the breakfast, with many saying they enjoyed Nagasaki specialties, and some report that the rooms felt spacious and comfortable even for a family of three. Overview
Richmond Hotel Nagasaki Shianbashi is a business hotel in the heart of Nagasaki's commercial and entertainment district, a 1-minute walk from the Shianbashi tram stop. One child of elementary school age or younger can co-sleep free of charge per bed, and kids' amenities, cribs and bed guards are available to borrow. There is no communal bath or onsen, so guests bathe in their room's bathroom. The multi-level parking garage holds 115 cars, but because of an equipment problem it is currently limited to about 60 cars, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rooms
The hotel offers a wide range of room types. Single and Double Rooms are 18 sq m with a 154 cm-wide bed, and Deluxe Double Rooms are 23 sq m with a 170 cm-wide bed. Hollywood Twin Rooms are 24 sq m with two 110 cm-wide beds, and Deluxe Twin Rooms are 25 sq m with two 120 cm-wide beds. Triple Rooms are 25 sq m with two 120 cm-wide beds plus one 85 cm-wide extra bed, and the barrier-free Universal Room is 25 sq m with a 122 cm-wide bed. The Kapitan Twin Room is 32 sq m with two 120 cm-wide beds and a separate bath, toilet and washbasin. There are no dedicated children's beds, so children normally stay by co-sleeping.
Dining
The first-floor restaurant Akaran serves a Japanese-Western buffet breakfast of about 50 items, including Nagasaki specialties such as sara udon, Goto udon, kakuni manju (steamed buns with braised pork) and castella sponge cake. It is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with last orders at 10 a.m. Children enjoy the same buffet as adults; the price is 2,200 yen for adults and 1,100 yen for children of elementary school age and under. Menu changes for food allergies cannot be accommodated, but an allergen list is kept on hand, so ask a staff member to check it.
Family-friendly features
One child of elementary school age or younger (age 12 and under) can co-sleep free of charge per bed. As a guide, that means up to 1 child in a Single or Double Room, up to 2 in a Twin Room, and up to 3 in a Triple Room with an extra bed. Please note that when 1 adult stays with 2 children, the rate charged is for 2 adults, regardless of the children's ages. Children staying by co-sleeping are not provided with meals or amenities, but face towels and bath towels are already set out in the room. Children of elementary school age and under receive kids' amenities (slippers, a toothbrush and a body sponge) and kids' pajamas (120 cm) as a gift at the front desk. Cribs are available to borrow for babies, and bed guards are also available to keep children from falling out of bed. Both are limited in number, so please contact the hotel in advance if you would like to use them. There is no communal bath, onsen or private-hire bath at the hotel, so guests bathe in their room's bathroom.
Access
The hotel is a 1-minute walk from the Shianbashi tram stop and about 10 minutes by tram from in front of JR Nagasaki Station. From Nagasaki Airport, the airport bus takes about 35 minutes into central Nagasaki; get off at the Shinchi Chinatown stop and transfer to the tram. The multi-level parking garage on the hotel grounds holds 115 cars at 1,200 yen per night, offered on a first-come, first-served basis rather than by reservation. Because of an equipment problem, however, it is currently operating with capacity limited to about 60 cars.
