Overview

Prince Smart Inn Kyoto Sanjo is a 137-room accommodation-focused hotel about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line, with an exterior inspired by the modern machiya townhouse. Rooms come in four twin and double types, each accommodating 1-2 guests. Children up to age 5 may co-sleep, and there is no children's rate. Every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function, and the third floor has a shared microwave and coin laundry. There is no communal bath, onsen, pool, playroom or childcare service, and no baby items such as cribs are listed as available to borrow. Pontocho, Nishiki Market and the Kamo River are all within walking distance, making it well suited to a light-luggage stay as a base for sightseeing in Kyoto.

Location and Access

Prince Smart Inn Kyoto Sanjo is a 137-room hotel on Gokomachi-dori, north of Sanjo, in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto. It is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of the Zest Oike underground mall at Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line, and about an 8-minute walk from Sanjo Station on the Keihan Main Line. By bus, take the roughly 16-minute ride from Kyoto Station (Karasuma Central Gate) to the Kawaramachi Sanjo stop, then walk about 4 minutes. Pontocho, Kiyamachi, the Kamo River, Nishiki Market and Gion are all within walking distance, as are a FamilyMart and a 7-Eleven. There is no dedicated parking, so guests use paid parking lots nearby. Bicycle parking for 16 bicycles is available beside the hotel, free of charge. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to midnight, and checkout is at 11 a.m.

Rooms and Co-Sleeping

There are four room types: Standard Twin A (17 sq m, shower only), Standard Twin B (22 sq m, with bathtub), Standard Double (16 sq m, shower only), and Universal Twin Room (26 sq m, with bathtub, on the first floor, bookable by phone only). Each accommodates 1-2 guests. All rooms are non-smoking and come with an air purifier with a humidifying function, a bidet toilet, a refrigerator, a safe, a hair dryer and free Wi-Fi. Only Standard Twin B and the Universal Twin Room have a bathtub; the other two types have a shower only. Rooms do not have drinking glasses. Instead, guests take what they need — paper cups, nightwear, toothbrushes, hairbrushes and the like — from the amenity corner on the first floor. Children up to age 5 may co-sleep, and there is no children's rate, though the arrangement can differ by plan, so please confirm when booking. There are no connecting rooms. Because each room holds 2 guests, please confirm in advance how occupancy is handled if you are traveling with a child older than the co-sleeping age.

Dining

Breakfast is served at PARiS&CANDY Kyoto Sanjo, the restaurant on the first floor, from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. What is served depends on your plan. The light breakfast service consists of bread, an egg dish, salad, dessert and a drink, while the full breakfast comes with a daily main dish such as quiche, pie or tart, plus two items such as ham and sausage, salad, bread, sweets and a drink. The free light breakfast service does not extend to co-sleeping children. There is no information on baby food, toddler meals, children's tableware or bibs, and none on accommodating allergies. Room service is not available.

Hotel Facilities

The first floor has free lockers for staying guests, an amenity corner, a smoking room and a universal restroom, and one wheelchair is available. The third floor has a coin laundry (paid, 3 machines), a microwave, an ice machine and vending machines. Check-in is self-service at an automated check-in machine, and with the hotel's app your smartphone becomes your room key. Guest rooms are equipped with a smart speaker. The lobby won an iF DESIGN AWARD 2023 in the Interior Architecture category.

What to Check Before Staying with Children

There is no communal bath, onsen, sauna, private-hire bath or pool; bathing is in your room's shower or bathtub. There is no playroom, outdoor play area or childcare service either. Baby items such as cribs, bed guards, strollers and diaper bins are not listed as available to borrow, so plan to bring whatever you need. Early check-in and late checkout are generally not accepted. Luggage can only be stored on the day of your stay, and room charges are in principle prepaid by credit card, with cash payment unavailable. This is not a hotel for a stay built around on-site play areas or bathing facilities, but it suits travelers who want a light, convenient base for sightseeing.
