Ogoto Onsen Dantokan Kikunoya

Ogoto Onsen Dantokan Kikunoya is a 16-room ryokan on the western shore of Lake Biwa, in the Ogoto district of Otsu. Inside, alongside a terrace lounge, there is a kids' space and library stocked with toys and picture books for children. It is open from 8 a.m. until checkout, and again from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., so children have somewhere to spend time without getting bored right after arrival or in the gap before dinner.

A plan for families with babies bundles equipment rental and in-room dining

The plan created for families traveling with a baby bundles together six kinds of support. Dinner is served in your room, and checkout is extended from the usual 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. On weekdays there is also a perk of a free 60-minute stay at the reservable private-hire open-air bath (normally 5,500 yen; not available while the private-hire bath is closed for renovation). A child's futon is laid out before you arrive, and breakable items are removed from the room in advance. A humidifying air purifier is also provided.

The baby items available for rental are a diaper-only trash bin, children's tableware, a baby bath, a baby bib/apron, 5 disposable diapers, cotton swabs, and baby soap. The hotel will also warm up baby food you bring along, so you can travel with less luggage. Some items must be requested in the comments field when you book.

A simple alkaline onsen communal bath, and a private-hire open-air bath overlooking Lake Biwa

The onsen water is a simple alkaline spring (a hypotonic, weakly alkaline onsen), gentle on the skin. There are separate communal baths and open-air baths for men and women, open from 3:30 p.m. to midnight and again from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

On the 6th floor is Koyuden, a reservable private-hire open-air bath with sweeping views of Lake Biwa. It is offered in 5 time slots from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., on a paid, advance-reservation basis at 5,500 yen (tax included) for 60 minutes. The post-bath rest area is spacious as well, giving families time on their own. Note that from August 31 to December 4, 2026, the private-hire open-air bath will be closed for renovation. Because of the construction, the whole property will be closed on August 31-September 4, October 5-October 9, and December 3-December 4. Also, whether children who are not yet toilet-trained can enter the communal bath's tub is not stated, so if you are planning to use it, we recommend confirming with the hotel in advance.

Dining: kaiseki cuisine using Omi ingredients, and a children's set meal

Dinner is a kaiseki course featuring Omi beef and the bounty of Lake Biwa. For children, a set meal designed with an eye to appearance and nutritional balance is available. The children's dinner course is 4,235 yen (tax included) and the children's breakfast is 2,200 yen (tax included); both require advance reservation. Parties of 5 or more are seated in a private dining room or banquet hall.

For food allergies, you are asked to specify the exact allergens either when booking or by 7 days before your stay. The hotel also notes that, because meals are prepared in a shared kitchen, it cannot guarantee complete allergen avoidance.

Rooms are mainly Japanese-style and Japanese-Western style

All 16 guest rooms are non-smoking. Every Japanese-modern room has a lake view overlooking Lake Biwa. On the top floor are two 'Amanokaze' special rooms with a semi-open-air onsen bath, where you can soak in the onsen right in your room. Pet-friendly rooms are also available, for families traveling with dogs.

Co-sleeping is available only for children under school age, at 2,200 yen (tax included) per person.

Access and parking

About 5 minutes by shuttle bus from Ogoto-Onsen Station on the JR Kosei Line. From 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the shuttle will pick up even a single guest. Kyoto Station is about 20 minutes away on the Kosei Line, making this an easy location to reach from the Kansai region. Parking is free for 23 cars, first-come, first-served.
