A century-old ryokan on the World Heritage island of Miyajima

Miyajima Shioyu Onsen Kinsuikan is an onsen ryokan of more than a century's standing, facing the Seto Inland Sea on the World Heritage island of Miyajima. It is about 10 minutes by ferry from JR Miyajimaguchi Station and about a 5-minute walk from Miyajima Pier. With Itsukushima Shrine and the Omotesando shopping street both within walking distance, it makes a fine base for exploring Miyajima with a baby or young children.

The Miyajima Shioyu onsen inside the ryokan is a natural hot spring containing seawater that wells up from deep underground, and families can bathe together in the communal bath or in a bath looking out over the Seto Inland Sea. Mizuori, the new guest rooms with a semi-open-air bath, are generously laid out with both beds and a Japanese-style tatami room, so families with young children who are uneasy about the communal bath can soak at leisure in the room's own bath without worrying about other guests.

Seto Inland Sea fish and Hiroshima beef kaiseki, plus Miyajima specialties

Dinner is a kaiseki of creative Japanese cuisine using fish landed in the Seto Inland Sea and Hiroshima beef, and it also includes Miyajima specialties such as anagomeshi (conger eel over rice) and oyster dishes. Food allergies can be accommodated as far as possible if you get in touch at least 5 days in advance, so families concerned about a child's food allergy can raise it easily.

Family plans and sightseeing on Miyajima

The ryokan also offers family plans that include aquarium tickets or free stays for preschool-age children, which pair well with a visit to Miyajima Aquarium and Itsukushima Shrine.
