Overview
Mikawa Higaki Hotel is an onsen ryokan overlooking Mikawa Bay, with its own onsen source. Rooms range from the 10-tatami Japanese-style West Wing Standard and Superior rooms to the East Wing Deluxe with two connecting rooms and the East Wing Special Room in Japanese-Western style; for parties of 3 or more, extra futon bedding is added, so families can stay together. The changing room of the women's communal bath has a baby bed, and a kids' plate is available at dinner. In summer, guests can also enjoy an outdoor pool. The ryokan is 5 minutes by car from JR Mikawa-Miya Station, with a free shuttle to the station.
Rooms
The West Wing Standard is a spacious 10-tatami Japanese-style room with a sea view, suited to couples and, with extra futon bedding, to families and groups as well. It has two low single beds chosen to sit in harmony with the tatami, standing about 15 cm above the tatami floor. For parties of 3 or more, futon bedding is added, and the room takes 1 to 5 guests. This room has no bath of its own, so guests use the communal bath and open-air bath. The West Wing Superior is likewise a Japanese-style room with the same low beds. The East Wing Deluxe is a generous suite of two connecting rooms — a 12-tatami Japanese-style room with an adjoining anteroom — with a bath and toilet, for 2 to 8 guests. The East Wing Special Room, of which there is only one, is an 85-square-meter Japanese-Western room made up of a sitting room and 10-tatami and 7-tatami Japanese-style rooms, also for up to 8 guests.

Dinner is a kaiseki course making generous use of seafood, served freshly made and freshly fried. For young children, a kids' plate brings together the dishes they enjoy most. Food allergies can be accommodated if you let the ryokan know at least 3 days in advance, though there are some ingredients, such as wheat, that cannot be accommodated.
Baths and Onsen
The ryokan's own source, Shokko no Yu, yields an abundant flow of about 180 liters per minute, and the sukiya-style (traditional teahouse-style) open-air bath looks out over the sweeping expanse of Mikawa Bay. The communal bath also has a sauna, but there is no private-hire bath. The changing room of the women's communal bath has a baby bed, making it easier to get ready with a small child.
