Overview
Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Yamanoha is a ryokan in Unazuki Onsen with views over Kurobe Gorge, a 3-minute walk from Unazuki Onsen Station on the Toyama Chiho Railway. The Tanayu view open-air bath is built in terraced steps like rice paddies, so each level frames a different view of Kurobe Gorge, and the Daikurobe communal bath has an open-air bath with water flowing directly from the source. There are also 3 private-hire baths a family can use together. A kids' corner is permanently set up on the second floor and is open to visiting families as well as to guests staying overnight. Children who have not yet started elementary school pay 50% of the adult rate, and infants (no meals, no bedding) stay at a flat rate of 3,300 yen.
Rooms
The main building has a river side facing Kurobe Gorge and a town side facing the Unazuki Onsen streets. Standard Japanese-style tatami rooms include a town-side 10-tatami type (28.6-30.74 sq m, for 1-5 guests) and a mountain-side 12-tatami type (32 sq m, for 1-6 guests). Standard Twins are 28.6 sq m on the town side and 34.4 sq m on the river side, both for 1-2 guests. The river-side Standard Twin is reached by about 8 steps up to the guest-room floor, so a stroller has to be lifted. The large rooms for bigger parties (60.0-62.6 sq m, from 15 tatami mats) have no bath in the room, so guests use the communal bath instead. The Standard Japanese-style tatami rooms in the Asuka annex (60 sq m, for 1-6 guests) all have free Wi-Fi and a bidet toilet.
Dining
Both breakfast and dinner are buffets at the restaurant Seeds (260 seats, 900 sq m). Breakfast runs from 7 to 9 a.m., though it may shift to 6:45 to 8:45 a.m. during the seasons when the torokko sightseeing train and the Tateyama Alpine Route are running; no reservation is needed and you can come as you like. Dinner is served in two seatings, first and second, each lasting 90 minutes. Start times differ from day to day - for example 5:20, 5:30 or 5:50 p.m. for the first seating and 7:10, 7:20 or 7:30 p.m. for the second - and you are given your time at the front desk when you check in that day. Times cannot be requested in advance, except for groups of 15 or more. The kitchen does not create individual menus or allergen charts for guests with food allergies. You may bring in safe foods such as allergen-free retort-pouch meals, as well as your own tableware, but you need to say so when you book.

Unazuki Onsen is a colorless, clear, weakly alkaline simple spring, long loved as water that is good for the skin. The tub of the Tanayu view open-air bath is built in terraced steps like rice paddies, and each level frames a different view of Kurobe Gorge. The indoor bath area has a mist sauna alongside it, plus a reclining bath. The Daikurobe communal bath is the largest in Unazuki Onsen; its open-air bath has water flowing directly from the source, and a dry sauna adjoins the indoor bath. Tanayu and Daikurobe are swapped between men and women. There are also 3 private-hire baths where a family or group can bathe privately, at 1,650 yen per bath for 50 minutes, including tax, booked at the front desk after you check in on the day; they cannot be reserved in advance. Guests who are heavily intoxicated or have tattoos are refused entry to the baths, including the private-hire baths.

Access
The ryokan is a 3-minute walk from Unazuki Onsen Station on the Toyama Chiho Railway, and about 20 minutes by car from the Kurobe IC on the Hokuriku Expressway. A free shuttle runs from Unazuki Onsen Station, with a ride of about 1 to 2 minutes. Note that the shuttle bus that used to connect JR Kurobe-Unazuki-Onsen Station (the Shinkansen station) with the ryokan was discontinued on February 28, 2022, so from the Shinkansen station you need to transfer to the Toyama Chiho Railway and travel to Unazuki Onsen Station. Parking is free for overnight guests, and 5 charging spaces are available for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Late checkout is available.
