forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.58 out of 5 (1,798 reviews). Families with children report that their kids loved being able to use the pool even before check-in, and that with events such as a summer-holiday festival fair there was barely enough time to do everything. Guests praise the seafood at the dinner and breakfast buffets, and some were moved to a larger room. One thing to note: at check-in the lobby has been crowded with tour groups, and some guests had to stand and wait without a seat.

Overview

Yumoto Konpira Onsen Hananoyu Koubaitei is an onsen ryokan on the approach to Kotohira-gu Shrine, a 5-minute walk from JR Kotohira Station. Alongside the communal baths, there are private-hire open-air baths on the 8th floor and rooms with their own open-air baths fed by the onsen. General guest rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 8 to 15 tatami mats, and there is also a Japanese-Western room that sleeps up to 7. In summer, staying guests can use the Garden Pool, which includes a children's pool, free of charge. When adults have a kaiseki dinner, children booked at the 50% child rate are served a kids' meal. Co-sleeping is allowed for up to 1 or 2 children, depending on the plan. For bookings made on or after October 1, 2026, a facility fee of 2,200 yen per child applies to children aged 0 to 5.

Rooms

All guest rooms are non-smoking, and every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function. General guest rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms with a bath, in four sizes: 8 tatami mats (12 sq m, for 1 to 4 guests), 10 tatami mats (15 sq m, for 2 to 5 guests), 12.5 tatami mats (for 2 to 6 guests) and 15 tatami mats (for 2 to 7 guests). The Hana Club Rakuwa Twin is a Japanese-style tatami room furnished with twin beds, for 2 guests only; the version with a sofa bed sleeps up to 3. Living Suite Kunshiko is a Japanese-Western room with an in-room open-air bath fed by the onsen. Its semi-double beds are arranged as a triple or a "Fours" (quad) setup depending on the number of guests, and it sleeps 2 to 4. The universal-design Kunshiko, with fewer steps, has 3 semi-double beds and sleeps 2 to 3. Corner Suite Sansoka (2 to 6 guests) and the Hana Club rooms with open-air bath also have in-room open-air baths. The Rakuwa Japanese-Western room is a two-room suite combining a tatami room with a bedroom of 2 double beds, and it sleeps up to 7. There is also a barrier-free room for wheelchair users, and you can move by wheelchair all the way from the entrance to the room.

Dining

Dinner is served at the kappo dining room Maruchu or in a private room; on plans where the hotel chooses the venue, you cannot pick between them. For stays from April 1, 2026, dinner at Maruchu runs in two seatings, the first from 5:50 p.m. and the second from 7:10 p.m. During Golden Week, the summer holidays (July 24 to August 31), Silver Week and the year-end and New Year period, dinner becomes a dinner buffet and the two-seating system does not apply. On plans whose name includes "Dining at Sanka Sanka," dinner is served in one of 7 private rooms with sunken-floor (horigotatsu) seating. In the main building, meals are taken in the dining venues; in-room dining is available only at Toraume, a separate annex exclusively for guests with pets. When adults have a kaiseki dinner, children booked at 70% of the adult rate are served a children's kaiseki course, and those booked at 50% are served a kids' meal. On days when adults have the buffet, children have the buffet too. Breakfast is a buffet of about 60 Japanese and Western dishes at Maruchu. Food allergies are accommodated for the 8 major allergens only, and advance notice is required. Meals cannot be changed to allergy-friendly versions on the day of your stay.

Baths and Onsen

The spring water is a sodium chloride spring. There are communal baths with open-air baths in two places: Hana Sumika on the basement floor and Hana Terrace on the 1st floor. Under a Kagawa Prefecture ordinance, mixed-gender bathing is not permitted from age 7, so children aged 7 and over cannot enter the communal bath with a parent of the opposite sex. Tattoo cover stickers are available for the communal baths, sold at the front desk for a fee. On the 8th floor, the private-hire open-air baths Tsukiyu and Hoshiyu use natural onsen water. They are for staying guests only and are booked on the day, at 3,850 yen including tax for 45 minutes per bath. Rooms that come with a stay benefit, such as the Hana Club rooms and the Rakuwa Japanese-Western room (a special room), include one free 45-minute session in either Tsukiyu or Hoshiyu. Whether children still in diapers can get into the communal bath tubs is not stated, so please check in advance.

Play Areas and Pool

In the Hana Terrace garden there is a summer-only Garden Pool along with a children's pool, free for staying guests. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last entry 5 p.m.), and the season dates vary each year depending on the calendar. Whether swim diapers are allowed is not stated, so please check in advance.
