Overview
Yokohama Grand Intercontinental Hotel is a luxury hotel that opened in 1991 as a landmark of Yokohama's Minatomirai district, with a striking exterior shaped like a yacht's sails. It stands next to Pacifico Yokohama, about a 5-minute walk from Minatomirai Station. Children ages 0 to 12 can stay with co-sleeping, and a free crib is available to borrow for children from newborn to 12 months. There is no communal bath or onsen, however, and the indoor pool cannot be used by guests under 18, so the on-site facilities that younger children can enjoy are limited.
Rooms
All guest rooms are non-smoking, and the hotel offers a wide range of room types. The 27 sq m 1 Queen Cozy Room looks toward Yokohama Station and sleeps 1-2 guests in one queen double bed. The 31 sq m Classic Harbor View sleeps 1-2 guests in one king double bed and looks out over Yokohama Port, while the 38 sq m Premium Harbor View sleeps 1-3 guests in two semi-double beds. For families, the 64 sq m Junior Suite sleeps 1-4 guests with two semi-double beds, and two extra beds can be added. The 67 sq m Tatami Suite is a Japanese-style tatami room with two semi-double beds to which futon bedding can be added, along with a bathroom that has a separate washing area. There is also the 84 sq m Suite Panorama View for 1-2 guests, with views of both the sea and the city. Connecting rooms are available in some room types with advance reservation, which is convenient if your family would like to split across two rooms.
Dining
For breakfast, you can choose between the Japanese and Western buffet at the buffet dining restaurant Ocean Terrace, served with a 60-minute limit, and a set Japanese meal at the Japanese restaurant Nadaman. Meals prepared with consideration for allergies can also be arranged.
Baths and Pool
There is no onsen, communal bath or private-hire bath. Guests normally bathe in their own guest room, and only the Tatami Suite has a bathroom with a separate washing area. There is an indoor pool, but it costs 6,600 yen even for staying guests, there is no children's pool, and guests under 18 cannot use it. Guests under 18 are also asked to refrain from using the fitness gym, and the Bay Window spa is limited to ages 18 and over. Childcare service is not offered either, so a stay on-site with babies and toddlers centers mainly on the room and meals.
Family-friendly features
Children ages 0 to 12 can stay with co-sleeping. Most plans state that children of elementary school age and younger may stay with co-sleeping, with meals and amenities not included. A crib is available among the hotel's facilities and is lent free of charge. It is intended for children from newborn to 12 months and, to prevent falls, is limited to children who cannot yet pull themselves up to stand. In the Club InterContinental lounge, children must always be accompanied by an adult and cannot enter on their own. Children ages 12 and under are asked to refrain from using the lounge during cocktail time, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and guests are asked not to enter in tank tops, beach sandals or slippers, so dress requires some attention. Barrier-free provisions include wheelchairs, wheelchairs available to borrow, Western-style toilets in guest rooms and wheelchair-accessible restrooms in the hotel. Family packages are also available, such as one that includes an admission ticket to Anitouch Minatomirai along with benefits including children's breakfast and a bed, and another that includes an admission ticket to the Yokohama Anpanman Children's Museum together with limited-edition goods.
Access
