A large onsen hotel in Ibusuki with ocean views from every room

Ibusuki Onsen Ibusuki Phoenix Hotel stands on the Ibusuki coast, and all 98 rooms have ocean views. Get off at Ibusuki Station on the JR Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line; it is about 50 minutes from Taniyama IC on the Kyushu Expressway. The whole hotel is non-smoking, and a shuttle bus takes guests from the hotel to Ibusuki Station (please request it in advance), making this a base for sightseeing at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula.

Ibusuki's famous sand steam bath, enjoyed indoors

Inside the hotel is Ibusuki's famous sand steam bath (sunamushi). Lie down in the hot sand and the warmth spreads slowly through you, leaving you refreshed as you sweat. Because it is indoors, families can enjoy the sand bath whatever the weather. It is for staying guests only, and children should be careful because the hot sand can cause low-temperature burns.

Communal bath, open-air bath and family bath

There is a communal bath fed by water flowing straight from the source, along with a tropical, cave-style open-air bath. A family bath (private-hire bath) is also available, so families with young children can take their time in the water without worrying about other guests.

A summer pool and a wide range of rooms

In July and August only, a cool pool fed by spring water from the mountains opens, and it is popular with families. Rooms range from 8- and 10-tatami Japanese-style rooms to ocean-view Western-style rooms, and the tatami rooms make co-sleeping with a baby easy. Together with kaiseki course meals made from Kagoshima specialties, the hotel makes for an enjoyable family trip to Ibusuki.
