Overview
Yunogou Onsen Hotel Yunomori Bishunkaku is a traditional Japanese-style onsen ryokan in Yunogou Onsen, Mimasaka, Okayama Prefecture. Alongside a communal bath that is one of the largest in the north of the prefecture and garden open-air baths, it has the detached Kangetsutei, where rooms come with their own open-air bath. The second-floor front desk lends out children's items such as a crib and a bouncer free of charge, and dinner includes a kids' set meal for children who have not yet started elementary school. The communal bath is also equipped with children's body soap and a baby chair, so it is easy for families to use.
Rooms
The main building has Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms of 10 to 12.5 tatami mats, sleeping 1 to 6 guests. The Japanese-style twin has beds measuring 2,000 mm long by 950 mm wide, and rooms can be chosen according to the number of guests and whether an indoor bath is included. On the top floor of the main building are Nagi no Ma, a Japanese-style special room looking out over the Chugoku Mountains and the surrounding countryside, and Akane no Ma, a Japanese-Western special room overlooking the Japanese garden; both sleep 1 to 6 guests. The detached Kangetsutei holds the rooms with open-air baths. Hana no Sato (4 twin rooms and 1 double) has an airy open-air bath framed by a single large pane of glass, while Sora no Oto (9 twin rooms and 1 double) gives each room a different style of tub. All of these rooms have Simmons beds, a shower room and a toilet. Twin rooms take 1 to 2 guests and doubles take 2, and child rates are available. Note that these open-air baths are not onsen: they are sake baths using the ryokan's own original sake. The whole property has been non-smoking since June 1, 2024.
Dining
Dinner is a kaiseki course built around Nagi Wagyu, certified Japanese Black beef from Okayama Prefecture, served from 6 p.m. at the Hanabishitei dining room. Children under school age are served a kids' set meal at 50% of the adult rate, and children's chairs are set out at mealtimes. Breakfast is the Mimasaka Buffet, centered on local Mimasaka ingredients and served from 7 to 8:30 a.m., with the venue closing at 9 a.m. It includes pancakes baked fresh in an automatic pancake machine, a homemade rice ball corner and a dessert corner. Plans available only for the Sora no Oto rooms also offer in-room dining, limited to 10 groups per day, with dinner delivered to the room between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Food allergies can be accommodated for 8 items — egg, milk, wheat, shrimp, crab, buckwheat, peanut and walnut — and requests must reach the ryokan by noon on the day before your stay. There is no microwave in the rooms, so guests are asked to speak to staff if they need one.
Baths and Onsen
Yunogou Onsen, said to have been discovered about 1,200 years ago, is colorless and clear and is known as the bath of beauty for the effect it is said to have on the skin. The spring water is a chloride spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline), with a source temperature of 40°C. There are two communal baths, Daikei and Chokei, which swap between men and women in the morning and evening so guests can enjoy the character of both. The communal bath is equipped with children's body soap and a baby chair. There are also garden open-air baths: Hotaru no Yu for men and Shirasagi no Yu for women. Day-use bathing is available from 3 to 9 p.m., at 1,500 yen for adults (junior high school age and over) and 700 yen for children (age 2 and over), while children under 2 are free. A bath towel and face towel are included, though towels are not provided for children under 2 bathing free of charge.

Access
The ryokan is well placed at about 2 hours by car from Osaka and about 75 minutes from Okayama, with free parking for 80 cars and no reservation required. It is 10 minutes by car from Hayashino Station on the JR Kishin Line and 15 minutes by car from the Mimasaka Interchange on the Chugoku Expressway. A free shuttle bus runs once a day from Okayama Station, and a shuttle to and from the Mimasaka Interchange highway bus stop and the Uno Bus Hayashino Bus Center is also available between 2 and 6 p.m.
