Overview
Yumago Onsen Yasashisa no Yado Chikutei is an onsen ryokan in Yumago Onsen in Mimasaka, Okayama. It offers guest rooms with a natural onsen open-air bath and plans with in-room dining, while the changing room is stocked with a baby bath, a baby bed and baby soap, and there is a kids corner with plenty of toys inside the ryokan. Rooms
There are several room types, including a 14-tatami Japanese-style tatami room, a 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with a natural onsen open-air bath, an 8-tatami Japanese-style tatami room in the Tsuki no Yakata wing, and a 16-tatami Japanese-Western room with two semi-double beds. In the rooms with an open-air bath, the natural onsen — known as the water that makes you beautiful — fills a tub made of Okayama-grown hinoki cypress, roomy enough for two people to soak comfortably. The 16-tatami Japanese-Western room has two semi-double beds with generous 120 cm mattresses and sleeps up to 4, but from 3 guests futon bedding is laid out as well, and the two beds cannot be pushed together. Some rooms involve stairs to reach the front desk or the communal bath, and toilets with a washing function are fitted in only some rooms.
Dining
Dinner is served in the room for parties of up to 4; parties of 5 or more, and guests who prefer it, dine in a private dining room. The private dining room Takasebune is partitioned with fusuma sliding doors and also has 2 table seats. The kaiseki courses include the Ume, Take, Matsu and Kaguyahime menus, with contents that change with the season. For children there is a dedicated kids' meal tray with sashimi, chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard), karaage (fried chicken), mini Hamburg steaks and more, finished with a dessert. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal of gentle, wholesome dishes: Okayama-grown rice, chirimenjako (tiny dried sardines), miso soup, an egg dish, seasonal fish and tofu dishes.
Baths and Onsen
The top-floor communal baths on the 7th floor are Kumo to Yoshinogawa no Yu for men and Take to Mimasaka no Yu for women, each with an adjoining open-air bath. Bathing hours are 11 a.m. to midnight and 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The spring water is a sodium-calcium chloride onsen, also known as the water that makes you beautiful. The private-hire baths Takenoko no Yu and Tanpopo no Yu can be used between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., one group at a time for 45 minutes starting on the hour; times are reserved and confirmed by phone. Some accommodation plans come with free use of a private-hire bath. The changing room is stocked with a baby bath, a baby bed and baby soap.
