Rakuten Travel rating 4.86 out of 5 (155 reviews). Several families report enjoying breakfast and free drinks in the great hall while looking out at the garden, and relaxing together there. Guests also frequently praise the kind, attentive service. On the other hand, some guests were disappointed that there is no onsen, and others found the lighting and the space for small items around the bed inconvenient when using the toilet at night.

Overview
Yanagawa Ohana is a ryotei ryokan that carries on the residence of the Tachibana family, the former lords of the Yanagawa domain, in a line running back to the Edo period. The entire 7,000-tsubo estate is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty, and staying guests are free to explore cultural properties such as the pine garden, the Western-style building and the great hall. Up to 2 children under school age can be added to any room without bedding, and children ages 0 to 2 can stay by co-sleeping. For dinner, children can have a Japanese-style course meal for elementary school children or a kids' meal for children under school age. There is no communal bath or onsen, so bathing is done in the guest-room bath.
Rooms
Guest rooms come in several types, including Kuromatsu, Mikan, Shakuyaku, Kurotsubaki, Shobu, Daidai, Tsuru and Fuji, ranging from 34.67 sq m to 87.71 sq m. In every room, up to 2 children under school age can be added without bedding, on top of the adult capacity. Mikan has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 1 to 6 guests, which makes it a good fit for families. Daidai also includes a barrier-free universal room; there are no steps inside, so even small children can spend time there with peace of mind.
Dining
Dinner is a kaiseki course that changes monthly. Alongside plans served in the dining room with tables and chairs, there are plans where you can choose to dine in a private room at Shukeitei, overlooking the garden. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. For children's dinners, upper-grade elementary school children are served a children's Japanese-style course meal, while lower-grade elementary school children and children under school age are served a kids' meal. Elementary school children who would like the kids' meal are advised to book under the under-school-age child category.
Baths
There is no onsen or communal bath, so bathing takes place in the guest-room bath. Rooms such as Kuromatsu and Shobu have a view bath looking out over the garden, so you can finish bathing entirely within your room rather than using a communal bath.
Family-friendly features
Children ages 0 to 2 can stay by co-sleeping. On eligible summer plans from July 20 to August 31, 2026, elementary school children and children under school age booked with meals receive a chochin lantern-painting experience, decorating a plain paper lantern and then carrying the finished lantern around the property at night. The experience is limited to those plans and is not included for adults or for children booked without meals.
